Isn't it remarkable how *every single time* some asshat tries to fuck with the fediverse by corporatizing or full-text-indexing it, they *always* justify it by saying "well it's inevitable, it'll happen eventually", apparently not realizing that *they are the one making it happen*.

Algorithmic feeds and fuzzy search are both inevitable mainstream features as the ecosystem grows. People need those to be able to use the platform effectively.

@mmin @alasaarela@equel.social Folks here *have* thought that through. To an excruciating degree. For years. The discussion has already taken place. Exhaustively. Over and over again. By the people who have dealt with platforms for years or decades, often from a marginalized perspective.
*Why* exactly do you think corporations are being told to fuck off?
@Ruby@hellsite.site @haskal @alasaarela@equel.social It's even worse than that: startups are *specifically designed to be* corporate overlords. The whole model exists very specifically to breed baby monopolists. That is its sole purpose.
That's why "customer acquisition" is where so much of the VC money goes, and why they love "social" stuff - it allows them to create network effects (ie. lock-in). It's all about "dominating a market".
Startups were never a grassroots anti-corporate thing. They were always just the foot in the door for *different* corporations to gain power, exploiting naive enthusiastic young folks in the process of doing so.

They are affirming that under current law, artwork used to train AI without license or permission is most likely copyright infringement - but they're calling for the public's opinion on whether the law should be changed to make exceptions for use with AI.
