You'd think the phrase "hipster anarchist" to be redundant until you meet the guy who fires his own homemade riot bricks.

Mutual aid - need help with rent :boost_ok: [25/200]

i'm going to be short on rent and i won't be seeing the money i made this month camming until next month.. if i could raise between 200-400, i'll be ok. (the reason for the discrepancy is cause i'm renting from family.)

thank you for caring.

shedded cat claw in the bathtub tell me my fate

A lot of the time people just use revolutionary-appropriated academic verbage to circle back around to re-encoding restrictive ideas like professionalism, civility, and secular norm enforcement. It just gets called something longer and has subtitle that says ": A marxist feminist critique" or whatever.

@mokosh yeah I never really had the mindset for sitting through that kind of stuff either. I'd rather see more positive stuff.

I wouldn't know about the fediverse chick if without the memes tbh. This server never sees anything like spam campaigns because we don't federate with the servers spammers register on. Is it all from mastodon.social and stuff?

There honestly ought to be a technical solution on fedi for users who are torn between seeking out visibility and seeking safety. Maybe some kind of codified "ambassador account" vs "personal account" relationship where the personal account is on a well moderated server and the ambassador account isn't, but is configured to automatically mirror and promote certain tagged/filtered 'art' or 'professional' posts onto it from the personal account. If on GoToSocial, maybe even with stricter reply permissions on the ambassador account as well.

I promote my videos solely from this highly-moderated mastodon server with the expectation that at least this way I won't cultivate a shitty starter fanbase. Which makes sense for me as the Patreon doesn't bring in enough money yet to matter. Even if it started to though, I would be very hesitant to offer any kind of less-moderated 'fan space' on another site or service. Judging from observations, that usually goes very badly.

remember when I asked for a replacement for #disqus and then ranted about how none of the available solutions would also integrate with #mastodon?

Well shit. I did it again and scratched my own itch and barfed out another open source project.

Introducing: Meh..

https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2025-03/26-meh_another_comment_system

* single install serves as many sites as you want
* can be used in static websites (it's lightweight web components in the frontend)
* imports Disqus
* fetches Mastodon replies as comments
* supports different languages (so far en, fr, es, de)
* probably has bugs

#opensource #opensourcesoftware #comments

comedy is when this screenshot was posted to Mastodon and a pile of Effective Altruism dweebs promptly responded repeatedly to defend EA's honour

(i checked, original post appears no longer to be up)

Wait why does KDE Connect work on my desktop when I use the wi-fi but not when I'm on ethernet? It's the same network isn't it? o.o

fedi meta - seeking visibility vs safety

For as much as artists complain about 'visibility' when on mastodon.art, at least images actually load from that server. Servers running misskey forks and whatever other non-mastodon based software often don't propagate media as consistently for my local instance's media cache for whatever reason. So ironically, artists who move their work off that server 'for visibility' often have their work turn into those invisible attachments I can't load.

I just wish fedi was full of people with hearts capable of growing up and becoming better so that a responsibly moderated and administrated server doesn't become so isolated to begin with. I can't fault artists and freelance writers and such seeking bigger audiences, but the way it conflicts with a drive for safe spaces online can rub me the wrong way sometimes.

If I could truly be a slime I wouldn't need teeth. It would dissolve all my problems.

I put a lot of work into manually making the English captions, so if you have trouble with un-captioned YouTubePoops, don't worry! Since starting this channel I have created a Patreon for supporting me and my family so I can keep putting out these videos. In addition there is a higher tier for accessing the (small) static source files and the kdenlive project files used in the edits, for those looking into example usages of Kdenlive video editor for these kinds of edits. It means a lot to me if you can share this around and also check out some of our other related videos.
