It's clear that AI assisted coding is dividing developers (welcome to the culture wars!). I've seen a few blog posts now that talk about how some people just "love the craft", "delight in making something just right, like knitting", etc, as opposed to people who just "want to make it work". As if that explains the divide.

How about this, some people resent the notion of being a babysitter to a stochastic token machine, hastening their own cognitive decline. Some people resent paying rent to a handful of US companies, all coming directly out of the TESCREAL human extinction cult, to be able to write software. Some people resent the "worse is better" steady decline of software quality over the past two decades, now supercharged. Some people resent that the hegemonic computing ecosystem is entirely shaped by the logic of venture capital. Some people hate that the digital commons is walled off and sold back to us. Oh and I guess some people also don't like the thought of making coding several orders of magnitude more energy intensive during a climate emergency.

But sure, no, it's really because we mourn the loss of our hobby.

@thufie I recently saw the original mouse presentation, from when they were invented, and that mentioned multiple mouse pointers.

They had the idea that several people would connect into this computer, collaborate together live on a document in the 1970s

Saw this mural in València and took a photo because I knew every person who's been injured and gone through worker's comp (or disability insurance claims) would be able to relate.

a 3D model of pebble i've been working on as a side project since march of last year! finally done <3 it honestly mostly took me as long as it did because i took long breaks from it, i wasn't actively working on this for a whole year

anyway, needless to say there's a
lot that went into this. i was learning a lot of stuff as i went, if i can get around to it i'll try to write a blog post detailing the process of making this. the blender shader this is rendered with is also made by me, i'll probably polish it up and release it on its own as the reason i made it is because i couldn't find a simple toon shader for blender anywhere online.

Anyways I'm glad I finally manifested that intrusive thought. Enjoy!

In this case there are still black-boxes on the 1:1 version except when the logo zooms out. So hopefully it was worth it in this case. I'll try to remove any builtin black-boxes from the source video in the future if I can help it (and it isn't an intentional bit).

Experimenting with "shorts". Basically I am just making a 1:1 less than standard-def version if the bit is too short to merit a full video. I think this works alright.

PeerTube still gets the original 4:3 version, but I have to take some minimal effort to reduce the black-boxes for people scrolling through YouTube shorts.

The Nintendo Wii was a multiseat desktop environment featuring an exclusive fullscreen setup. Years ahead of modern desktop computing. Why can't I have 4 little colorful mouse pointers and fight over the UI with my friends?
