my favorite moment of that visit was that they had a photography exhibition and a bunch of photos were documenting the trans and drag scene in nyc in the 1970s

while i was reading the accompanying text that bemoaned how heavily policed variant gender expression was "back then" and how people were in constant fear of police repression, i, a trans girl, looked up to see that i was alone in the room, surrounded by no less than five security dudes in a half circle. it was like a movie scene that is a tad too heavy on the symbolism

If you are helping people with clothing or shelter, that is the work.

If you offer encouragement & support, that is the work.

If you share information & speak the truth, that is the work.

If you're setting up chairs for a community defense training, that is the work.

If it's worth doing, it is worth doing.

There's a (bullshit) narrative going around that if you don't "grant" someone who was abusive/harmful to you the grace and space to change, then you're "a bad person" yourself, or not that much different from them ultimately

And I say that's bullshit because, while yes people in general have the ability to change and grow?

Some folks need to prove they HAVE changed and grown before they get to have access to certain people and spaces (again). Is where I'm at with it these days.
