Been seeing more and more uncritical mentions of the 988 mental health hotline lately. If you’re going to promote this, you ought to also include the risks, which are that they collaborate with police: by their own admission about 2% of calls end up with the counselor calling 911 on the person seeking help.

If you are going to reach out to 988, and you don’t want violent fucks with guns potentially showing up at your door, make sure you:
—Do not under any circumstances volunteer your location (988 claims to not use geolocation capability like 911 does)
—never admit to being at an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or in immediately unsafe surroundings. Remember that the counselor may have a lower threshold for defining this than you do!
