In historical accounts of hard times in the histories of other places, descriptions of side hustles adopted out of economic desperation are viewed as undermining the legitimacy of the social order. Perhaps even an invitation to revolt. In your own country, in the present time, it is viewed as heroic and self-sacrificing.

Gig economy, precariat, etc.

I remember when Bruce Schneier had a reputable security blog and talked about exploits and botnets in detail. I stopped reading a while back (can't remember how long ago) and it has devolved into some AI policy-wonk bullshit by a white dude that doesn't even use the word "bias" anywhere. Nor actually relavant security coverage! Pathetic.

At least Krebs still actually talks about security topics so I guess I'll be going to his blog instead.

Every year at least once a year I think about the fosstodon user who kept arguing that my license preventing child labor was at odds with freedom because he wouldn't be able to write software for a shift-clock for sweating his kids at the lemonade stand.

my therapist didn't laugh at my joke and started taking notes instead

Fucking wild that YouTube will try suggesting autocaptions on videos that already have legitimate closed captioning. Why even bother wasting compute and electricity on generating them?

Perhaps bigots should be filtered at the existence level, before accessing any network protocols.

more training is just justification for cop cities

Sorry Jimmy. I know you already had a hard day at school, but you forgot to clock in at the lemonade stand so I'm gonna have to dock your pay.

Next year at the FSF we are partnering with Northrup Grumann to ensure the entire stack, from the runway to the killing fields, is fully libre. Right now users have complained that the missiles killing them contain non-free proprietary "blobs" and we heard you! Next year you can be reduced to cinders and ash by anyone willing to reciprocate with open contributions to the Torment Nexus.

Have foss-advocates ever tallied how many of their own contributors are killed by drones loaded with FLOSS software? Is it really fair to say that waiving all usage restrictions has no human impact?
