If you use `yt-dlp` to download videos from YouTube, you will want to read this.

(`yt-dlp` covers far more than YouTube, but this is specific to YouTube.)

I used to find quite absurd that São Paulo citizens just accept living with that much pollution when it eats an average 8 years of life of everyone.

I'm pretty sure German bureaucracy eats multiple times that. I have no idea how these people tolerate this, I would be rioting and breaking stuff long ago. uh, allegedly

bitching about the anti-academic streak of :ai: crap taking over

Supercomputers put to the task of AI.

Nuclear plants put to the task of powering AI supercomputers.

Yet none of the top-tier HPC compute can go back to academic nuclear plant research simulations. Those sims gotta run on a creaky old institution cluster.

AI bros claim they are gonna bring about a technocracy or some shit but they can't even conceive of Baconian science 101.

And for what? So we can see AI slop in ads. Cut the last bastion of humanity out of corporate marketing. Fucking great.

I think anyone who fundamentally views an artist as an obstacle to be bypassed ought to be bypassed themselves.

Nvidia and openAI are talking about building a 10GW data centre.

So. We gots a big number. Let's look at it.

How much is 10GW? Well the UK has a typical day time electricity consumption of ~40GW. Meaning that this one single data centre is looking to use the same amount of electricity as a quarter of the UK. In a single installation. A quarter of the electricity of the 6th largest economy in the world. A single data centre.

Or put another way. It needs power from 3x sizewell C nuclear plant.

KDE

I really wish KDE would let me rotate a desktop window 90 degrees. The weston wayland demo compositor has had this forever, does literally anything else implement it?

Am I just an unforgivable weirdo for occasionally wanting to have one window have one orientation while the rest of the desktop and windows have another?

I wish I had time to become a contributor for this. Or money to put a feature bounty on it or something.

I put a lot of work into manually making the English captions, so if you have trouble with un-captioned YouTubePoops, don't worry! It was fun to sprinkle in a little David Wilcock source material too :blobcatwink: .

Anyways, stay :cyber: !

Funded for now, tysm - GFM to save our cat Clyde

Hey friends,

Things are getting really difficult financially, as Clyde's other fees used almost everything we had left on my disability benefits.

We only have the money for her appointment on Friday.

We've made this GFM for her only, please boost if you don't mind. All amounts are detailed.
Any donation would be really appreciated as well, if you can.

Thank you so much
