I think people have grown a pessimistic view towards single user instances that is unwarranted. Every time I pull account stats for my personal data and run through it, most of my most interesting mutuals are running a single user instance. Far more than I have to deal with in terms of shitheads or block evader throwaway servers.
On the other hand the association between what instance software they use and certain political views is usually spot-on and exceptions are exceptional. Namely that the various shitheads tend more towards Akkoma and Soapbox these days. Thankfully both of those come with excellent features for getting the short-list of who interacts with who so you can suspend their shitty friends too.

Bigots hate TBS (The Bad Space) and similar shared moderation efforts because it makes handling the "receipts" that white people demand to prove their racist friends behavior is bad logistically viable instead of a full time individual bookkeeping job they will just dismiss anyways.

Today is why I don't worry about bigots and their claims of reciepts.
When I don't post receipts they say I'm lying. When I do they say they are fake or rationalize away the obviousness of the harm they show.
They are constantly shifting the goal posts. They never say 'Ok, maybe Ro has experienced some bad stuff here.'
They never acknowledge the harm that has been committed.
And ignoring the pain caused to Black folks in the name of promoting is a common racist tactic to justify their hate.
I don't call people racist because I dislike them.
I call them that because that's what they are showing me what they are. And they've been doing it for years.

As the events of this last week have revealed, #TheBadSpace is needed as bigots on the fedi continue to instigate hate campaigns against targeted communities they feel don’t have a right to be here.
TBS has been proven to be an effective tool in taking away hateful people’s ability to harass and abuse our spaces with no consequences. The more we share our collective knowledge about where these sources of harm come from, the further we reduce their ability to infiltrate our spaces.
I’ve been working on this project for a while and I will continue to do because we just need better safety and moderation tools in this space.
TBS and #Fipamo are completely independent project that receive no institutional or corporate support or resources.
It’s all for and by the people.
