today's fun cursed keyboard fact: xkb (the thing both X11 and Wayland use for keyboard input) defines keys called XF86Calculator and XF86Calculater

they are distinct keysyms and you can bind them to different things

further fun fact: based on the way the list is ordered, i think XF86Calculater is the one that was intended for the 'calculator' key on normal keyboards

it's grouped with all the application launcher keys, while XF86Calculator is in another section that purports to be for buttons on PDAs

but presumably everyone else spelled calculator correctly when writing keymaps instead of looking at the keysym list to see if there was another one that was misspelled, because why would you think to check for that, so any keyboard with a calculator key results in the supposedly-for-PDAs keysym

Today I got a cheery email from somebody who claims to be the "ethics and compliance" officer for a company called Bright Data. He wanted to have a "no pressure" conversation about the whole AI scraperbot problem. Looking at their web site, this company offers an API that, and I quote, "Bypasses anti-scraping mechanisms and solves CAPTCHAs, ensuring uninterrupted access to the most protected web sites".

After careful consideration for several milliseconds, I have concluded that I really don't have anything to discuss with this person.

But at least their claimed "100M+" of residential IP addresses that they use for their DDOS attacks are "ethically sourced".
