So, the other day, inspired by another idea, I was musing about building a small, cheap service that provides a (shared) garbage generator, and a reverse proxy to front stuff hosted elsewhere (like on a home server), optionally with a WireGuard tunnel, configurable via SSH.

The idea here is that you could set things up like: "Serve host.example.com, by reverse proxying to <wireguard ip>, but serve garbage to known bots, and anyone visiting /some/prefix/.", or "Serve host2.example.com by reverse proxying to <wireguard ip>, but serve 451 to known bots.".

Just a reverse proxy with minimal configuration, on a shared IP, with a shared garbage generator, and a shared bot list. Logs would also be available via ssh.

I think I could cobble together something like this pretty fast, and even make the tooling free software. Question is: would it be worth it? If I built a small servce on top of it, would anyone pay something like €1-2/month to use it?

If you work in government and are asked to remove content from websites (as a result of executive orders), please use the HTTP status code 451 instead of 404.

451 is the correct status code to use for these cases, and you'll be doing the rest of the country a service by using it.

Addendum: you should also include a Link header with the link relation "blocked-by" that "Identifies the entity that blocks access to a resource following receipt of a legal demand."

I don't know who needs to hear this but Gilette Venus Smooth and Gilette Mach 3 blades and handles are interchangeable 🪄

Mach 3 blades are anywhere between 50c and €1 cheaper per blade than even most basic Venus blades and they are WAY sharper and give a smoother shave with a little extra care.

Venus handles are WAY more comfortable to hold, especially when wet.
