The great bikeshed in the sky will become attainable only through dissolution of hierarchy. You have nothing to lose but your old bike chains.

In the age of slop, collectivizing our moderation labor to help combat spam will no longer be optional. Its obvious that some people are just shameless and refuse to stop generating senseless garbage that interferes with serious data retrieval. Maybe we need a slop signature database available as a service and for download. More ambitious than antivirus and antivirus signatures for sure, but possible. Software which supports this signature database can then use it however is necessary to filter out inauthentic junk. Generated text strings, images, audio, video, etc.

recruiter message: "They’re looking for engineers who enjoy ownership"

me: does anyone really enjoy ownership at work

Whatever happens today isn't going to top that, that's for sure.

I wonder how many hours I've had to waste obtaining scientific articles rather than being able to just click directly to the pdf so I can do science. Having to do university SSO/vpn/fifteen clicks to the actual damn pdf. Or discovering we don't have it, writing to the author or a colleague to ask for a copy. I wonder how much researcher time has been wasted globally on this. I wonder how much research time sci-hub has saved, the economic value of that time. I bet it's A LOT.
