I have a friend (not on the fedi, yet), a fellow FLOSS contributor. They recently noticed that some of their permissively licensed code is being rewritten and incorporated into other software, without attribution, without respecting the license. The code is often disguised to not resemble the original much, but they believe it is a derivative work nevertheless.

They don't mind their code being incorporated into other software, but this attempt at trying to hide the code's origin is starting to bother them a little. This has been ongoing for a long time now.

What avenues do they have to resolve this situation? Preferably peacefully. Any help - including boosts! - would be appreciated. My DMs are open.
