Is there a list of people whose brand is: „I built bad thing for big company and now want to be known for shedding light on bad thing“?

(Maybe it's a journalism thing. The rebirth plot.)

how the extremely open bluesky protocol works, that everyone should freely copy and use:

by running all posts through a proprietary third-party AI moderation service, thehive.ai/

dig this, the nazis are just another kind of content and not people you fucking kick:

Does anyone have recommendations for a search engine that still searches for the thing you actually entered into the field instead of some other shit

btw if anyone is curious about my mastodon + glitchsoc + nixos setup (as I've gotten a few questions the last few days)

Kinda tired of the whole "I made a lot of money building the Torment Nexus but now I quit and am warning you about the Torment Nexus (buy my book)" redemption arch for tech people we seem to have settled on.

There are many different sides to the "Dave Debate"

Should people named Dave exist? Should they have rights? Are they people at all?

I'm not anti-Dave, in fact I am a great supporter of Daves. I just think we need to ask some questions. But if you ask these questions people get so mad.

Shouldn't we at least have a sober reasonable discussion? What's wrong with that?

As a writer, I've found it enjoyable to have reminders to add alt-text to images I upload here. It's a chance for me to, quite literally, paint with words. I try to both capture practical elements of my uploads as well as their emotional experience - that is, the feeling that was evoked in me that led to my uploading the image.

I get to practice my art and, at the same time, promote diverse access. Win, win - and I highly recommend all the other writers here take advantage of it.

Whatever "cancelling your subscriptions in favour of a piracy-only model of TV consumption" is, it's definitely not crossing a picket line

"Strong typing" is when you press the keys extra hard right

It's 2023, and this is the sort of surveys some people make in #OpenStreetMap . Gender? Woman, man, or transgender..

for people hyping up risc-v

you know it will be at least a decade or so before anyone considers using it for consumer products and not as a niche thing, especially desktops

I mean, to this day arm is not seriously used for desktops besides from a single company

(and you don't get to tell me "it's fine", unless your main computer now is a pinebook or a raspberry-pi)

also, its licensing still lets companies add their own proprietary extensions to it, which also make chips from one incompatible with others for anything non-trivial

Every time I find a worthwhile website - aka one that isn't a social media site or a news outlet - dedicated to some niche interest, the web design immediately tells me it's from an older version of the internet made by someone who interacted with Online very differently.

The iOS podcast app will randomly move your podcasts around your screen for the first few seconds after you open it ensuring that there is no way to start listening without being low-key annoyed

Dear French engineers: how much amperage were you expecting on a phone line?

Remember: don’t just block things. Report them! Your mods can’t do anything if they don’t know!

I get the sense that tech reporters aren't the most introspective lot around.

Like, a few years ago this was fairly typical of the coverage of Alexa:

"Why Amazon's Alexa is the future of computing"
vox.com/new-money/2017/1/6/141

And now these same tech reporters are pivoting seamlessly to AI as the next big thing

Nowhere to be found: any form of self-reflection of how they hyped tech in the past

Keep your movement and events clean from authoritarian ideologies and symbols
