Remember how Firefox grew big? I remember it as people wanting to go browse the web and not knowing what to do and others telling them that the first thing they should do is install Firefox. And done! So that is how Chrome will lose: just help friends and family install Firefox when they are not sure. Yes, I know how Firefox is not great, either. But it’s still better.
I would recommend that any person who is able to, should attend a protest at least once, for whatever cause interests them.
Not because I think it will change anything by itself, but because there is probably no faster way to learn whose interests cops and other authorities represent, and you can see it entirely with your own eyes, no need to trust anyone's reporting.

De laatste tijd zijn er een aantal artikelen verschenen over hoe "onbeheersbaar" o.a. die XR-demonstraties wel niet zouden zijn, en hoe er meer middelen nodig zouden zijn om ze te bestrijden. Er valt niets tegen te doen, verzuchten burgemeesters, politie, enzovoorts.
De manier waarop erover gesproken wordt laat heel duidelijk zien hoe er in Nederland over demonstraties gedacht wordt door autoriteiten; als een lastig dingetje waar het doel is om ze te stoppen. De boodschap maakt niet uit, en daar wordt ook niets mee gedaan.
Hier een citaatje uit zo'n artikel (deze is van de NOS):
"Burgemeester van Den Haag Jan van Zanen denkt daar anders over. Bij eerdere demonstraties werden vele honderden activisten gearresteerd, maar vervolgens ook weer vrijgelaten vanwege het vreedzame karakter van het protest. "In de praktijk blijkt dat niet effectief tegen dit soort gedragingen kan worden opgetreden wanneer deze massaal en langdurig plaatsvinden", aldus Van Zanen in een brief aan de Tweede Kamer. Hij vraagt Kamerleden na te denken "over een manier waarop op dergelijke ontwrichtende acties een antwoord kan worden geboden"."
Weet je hoe je die acties een antwoord kunt bieden? Door op de boodschap in te gaan. Door daadwerkelijk fossiele subsidies af te schaffen. Door daadwerkelijk de woningbouw te gaan fixen.
Maar nee, op de boodschap ingaan is echt een brug te ver. Laten we dat vooral niet doen. Laten we in plaats daarvan steeds meer repressie toepassen om demonstraties weg te drukken alsof het een insectenplaag is. Aldus de autoriteiten.
En dan vinden mensen het gek dat ik geen toekomst zie in demonstraties als bron van verandering. Waarom zou ik, als er vrijwel letterlijk wordt gezegd dat men zich er toch niets van aan gaat trekken?

The way the right and centre are currently doing politics is mutually exclusive with the right and centre movements to continue existing for the coming two or three centuries.
It's not that the left isn't willing to compromise, it's that the bare minimum the left want is for humanity as a life form to survive at all. If right and centre want to continue their current politics what they are actually doing is put an end to human existence entirely.
Compromising below that line is sorta like going "well, we'll make some concessions, we'll allow humanity to live for 150 years instead of just 100 by getting rid of this one thing, but we really can't do more, anything more than 150 years would be unreasonable" when asked to reduce corporate e-waste.
"But we're already doing so much" is them going "but we're already at 150 years, what more could you ask?" well knowing that what they're saying is "your grandchildren and their children will die a horrible death, and we're causing it, but it's not profitable to allow them to life, so we're killing all of humanity instead".

Hey Fediverse! There is a San Diego Mutual Aid organization called We All We Got San Diego. This org has bi-weekly, free food distribution, with no questions asked or gatekeeping, just free food given away in San Diego. They do incredible work.
I have just heard from their Discord channel that they are currently low on funds, with not enough in the account to handle even one of the bi-weekly distros they do.
