we are a strictly antifascist organization. we have zero tolerance for fascism or anything that enables or allows it. (yes that includes capitalism)

We do not work with transphobes/fascists/racists. If you open an issue or PR on our git repo and we see you are one of those things, or hang out with people like that, we will kick you out of our space. We have no patience for bigotry, and we see no reason whatsoever to tolerate having it anywhere near us. Fuck terfs and fuck nazis.

@aurynn @nev @joepie91 Wired does this, you can have a digital subscription or physical, which includes all the digital stuff too

Hello sloth enjoyers! Thank you for helping us test stuff! We fixed a bunch of bugs that were present in the first release candidate for v0.7.0 of GoToSocial, and now the second release candidate is available!

You can grab it here: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/releases/tag/v0.7.0-rc2 or use docker tag superseriousbusiness/gotosocial:0.7.0-rc2.

Highlights of this:

Videos actually work now :gtspat:
More stable fetching avatars + headers.
Much more thorough prune logic for stale/unused media files.

Enjoy, and please let us know via a github issue if you find a bug peculiar to this release candidate.

mastodon meltdowns, meta

Yes, it really sucks when an instance shuts down. Yes, it really sucks navigating interpersonal conflicts. Yes, it really sucks discovering that some admins are shitty, actually.

But, consider this: this isn't just about a migration from Twitter to Mastodon - or to fedi, for that matter.

Rather, we're all collectively having to relearn how to build and maintain communities and their infrastructure, after two decades of total reliance on corporations to (fail to) do so.

That *is* going to be a messy process, involving a lot of conflict as people figure things out. For many, it's learning these things the hard way, through trial and error.

It may be painful, but it's very much worth it in the long run. And fedi just happens to be the environment that people learn it in.

I'm still so surprised it worked but I transferred this book to the ereader I've barely used in years using a 10 cent usb-c to micro-b adapter and a c-c cable, from my phone

great.. another mastodon notification that crashes the interface

rant, programming, javascript, individualism

It's really telling how many people will go to extreme lengths and efforts to develop and use JS blockers for browsers... but put zero effort into eg. educating developers on better development approaches to solve the problem at the root.

"Using a script blocker" is an individualist "solution" to a collective problem. It doesn't work. It's even worse when people try to peddle it to *others* as some sort of obligation to 'protect themselves'.

Collective problems require collective solutions. Please stop this weird "I got mine" approach and actually put work into solving the underlying problem. I'm sick and tired of being the only person in the room doing this.

@elfi just a joke 😅, but if they did somehow take up any significant amount of space i'd be happy to just buy another disk for them :P

Made a react-native Android app yesterday and it was actually quite nice? might post some more in a bit

someone: "GoToSocial looks good"
