@foone

I turned to my boss. "I don't get it. How does he get better the more exhausted he is?"

My boss just looked at me like it was obvious. "Our front end code depends on Jake weary."

@foone

After a few more minutes of this he slammed down on the enter key, and stood up, stumbling to the corner where he had sleeping bag, and just collapsed on it.

We crowded around his monitor. Unbelievably, he had cleared every outstanding bug.

@foone

But when we got into crunch mode and the hours grew longer and longer, it's like the pressure and stress unlocked his potential. Once, in the last 48 hours before a big deadline, I walked in on him surrounded by about a dozen empty cans of Monster, just furiously typing away, muttering to himself. I was about to say something when my boss shot me a stern look and shook his head.

So I stood there. We all just stood there, watching.

@foone

This was many years ago but i once worked with this front end dev, guy named Jake. He was a kind of an odd fellow. Real lanky dude, didn't talk much. And normally he wasn't the greatest programmer, a bit sloppy.

This Eid, let's keep our palestinian friends in our mind, and lend a hand to them using our pockets!

@gaza_verified_accounts

It's raining in Gaza, but look at the extent of our suffering from the cold and the tents. Please don't abandon us, help us.

!!UPDATE!! Help a Black Trans Woman safely leave a transphobic abuse family environment | $1078/1800 (things fall apart)

"It's not post-processing, it's not post-processing", I continue to insist as I slowly shrink and transform into a corn cob

Good evening 🌒
I wish you and your loved ones a blessed #Eid! 🥳✨🌙

In #Palestine, traditionally, people eat feseekh, a very salted fish. The fish is kept in salt for a month, which cooks its flesh. It tastes very strong, and it’s delicious! If salted fish is unavailable, some people have smoked fish instead.

Unfortunately, my family wasn’t able to afford feseekh this year. But I enjoyed thinking about it. God willing, we’ll have it next year.

trans politics meta

i know it's somewhat irrational, but i love my grey hair.

when i grew up, trans women with grey hair weren't a thing. trans women were young, and then...they disappeared. part of that was aids, part of it was the other kind of violence. in my teens the consensus even in supportive spaces seemed to be "well you can transition, but you won't get old".

breaking that cycle is so empowering. we're living proof that the popular story was a lie, and that's why the fascists are panicking. after all, if that was a lie, what else might have been

The Rust project puts out an article about how they're listening to their community blog.rust-lang.org/2026/03/20/

Except it turns out that article was drafted by an LLM reddit.com/r/rust/comments/1rz

They claim nearly every line was rewritten by a human but I'm not sure how you could send a worse signal to your community about how much you aren't listening than having an LLM draft a post saying we're really listening, honest

anyone made an extension to replace ✨ on websites with :GenAI: ?

My #Wikipedia request for comment just closed, finally banning #AI content in articles! "The use of LLMs to generate or rewrite article content is prohibited"

Kudos to all who participated in writing the guideline (especially Kowal2701) and the whole WikiProject AI Cleanup team, this was very much a group effort!
