@ombres there are so many people who want the anarchist look, but functionally only as wallpaper for their new reform party. There was definitely a historical trend pre-internet towards anarchists being under-identified, or too humble to identify as anarchists (Ursula Le Guin mentions this, and anarchist anthropoligists have described many historically analagous lifeways). But it feels like nowadays that has been complely reversed. Far more people are willing to identify as anarchists than there are actually anarchists who engage in anarchist praxis now. And if I'm gonna be honest whenever crimethinc-haters come up that's where my mind goes. Because this is the fucking basics, the editorial flair may not be everyone's taste, but what's in the text is just the basics of anarchism. People who take serious issue with it are basically self-described anarchists who get upset when they find out what established anarchist thought, and its practitioners have to say about anything.

Minneapolis Responds to the Murder of Alex Pretti
An eyewitness account

crimethinc.com/AlexPretti

On Saturday, January 24, an ICE agent murdered Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Five agents tackled and beat him, then an agent shot him multiple times. In response to the murder, the Whittier neighborhood immediately rose up and battled ICE, Minnesota police, and Minnesota State Troopers for over four hours, eventually forcing them to withdraw.

This murder occurred one day after a historic general strike in which more than 100,000 workers in the Twin Cities walked out against the ICE occupation. Many people in the streets expressed the opinion that the federal agents murdered Alex as an act of revenge for the strike.

The hyper online perception of crime as "silly" and cutesy-coded is a bit wearing. Not because crime is bad or anything, its just a matter of trivializing the table-stakes, and treating anyone making that calculation from a different social position than you as "unserious" in some way. It feels a bit hand-washy. Like okay here is how we are gonna wash our hands and excuse ourselves from explaining or attempting to address the very serious risks people take to survive in a hyper legalized world.

@mossfet You can open a dired buffer and a terminal on a remote machine, edit files, etc. It is the best tool for manual server administration. This is also the draw behind all the sysadmin related modes on elpa/melpa

@mossfet yeah it is the best part of emacs. You think it is optimal to recompile emacs and reinstall your config on every remote host? If tramp-mode didn't exist, there'd be way less appeal to all the hard setup.

In unrelated news, Microsoft is asking Microsoft Windows users to uninstall a recent Microsoft Windows update, issued and published by Microsoft, because said update is breaking Microsoft Windows.
