sooo Vonovia just sent me a letter informing me that they're going to "modernise" my apartment with some sort of internet spying cloud device disguised as a smoke detector. To rub salt on the wound, it says they're going to increase my rent 5 bucks for the privilege.
The FAQ does not have the option "opt out of this modernisation".
Are they allowed to do this? Is this legal? Do I need to pay a lawyer to object? #Germany #Vonovia
*Edit*: Ongoing objections in other parts of Germany, and at least one court case is already ongoing in Kassel:
I've already contacted my local Mieterverein, I'm a member but they always take forever to actually give me a Beratung so I'll appreciate any help with measures I can do in the meantime. I am fully willing to take the case to the courts if that's the only way to reject this, but I don't have funding for lawyers so I hope Verein mediation or fundraising can be done as more of a community thing for the entirety of Germany than a "me" thing.
Besides the privacy violation, this is to me pretty obviously a fake, illegitimate "modernisation" used as a pretext for a rent increase.
