please upgrade from your perfectly serviceable machine, we wish to run more javascript
@lyncia
I've worked at a number of modern JavaScript shops now. You'll get the occasional insufferable nerd who argues performance to win the for/forEach argument, but for practical purposes nobody understands performance enough to optimize even if they cared.
Besides, half of everything gets transpiled to es5 so even if you do write good code, if you used a feature less than 20 years old it'll get polyfilled into slop.
@lyncia what has mimo done that I can run on my Nokia?
@lyncia haven't you heard we have so much ram nowadays we should not think about optimisation lol...
*cries*
@lyncia I love to use JavaScript for things that actually need responsive programming, but holy fuck if other JavaScript devs will do anything to avoid using the HTML element that does exactly what they need with no additional code necessary
And they make things responsive that have absolutely no reason to be responsive except ✨aesthetics✨ and I'm like come on, at least let us choose between the page you think looks cool and the page that just fucking works
@lyncia firefox froze when we were writing a long comment complaining about this stuff
so instead we'll just say:
a software update is when you install a new program and pretend like it's the same as the old program
@lyncia
we wish to one day install the final versions of programs we use
that's it, all the errors were fixed, all the features were added. no more updates. the program is finally completely implemented.
@transoptimal ive seen programs like that.
theyre ocasionally considered "unmaintained". "abandoned".
@transoptimal maybe my memory is mistaken on that though. personally, software doesnt need to be perpetually upgraded
my computer isnt even *that* old I just dont have the money to have the latest hardware nor do i want to have the latest and greatest
i dont care about AI or raytracing or more cores, i just want to play old silly games, write, read, and talk to my friends
