Anyway tonight I'm basically doing data entry, putting all the information on these seed packets into one big spreadsheet so that I can plan out my garden this year

transphobia, uspol, blocking trans people from voting

The SAVE Act will require "proving citizenship" to vote, and looks like it could tie in with the same "having changed your name and gender marker is identity fraud" stuff, possibly blocking many trans people from participating in US democracy americanprogress.org/article/t

🙏 always good to know it’s isn’t just techy fediverse-using people who hate AI lol

I was recently introduced to the concept of “hypernormalization” coined to describe the Soviet Union.

Hypernormalization is when the economic and social system is obviously broken, but instead of fixing it, people just accept it as normal because the truth is too complex or inconvenient to change.

So politicians and citizens alike are resigned to maintaining the pretense of a functioning society.

Man, the translations on these seed packages are garbage, also there's typos everywhere that have been on there for the past several years at least

Hello there. I'm a visual artist, printmaker and author from The Netherlands (Ulft, Rotterdam, Hilversum).

I'm interested in how parts make wholes, late Romanesque / Early Gothic manuscript illumination, and long-form black metal. Maybe you have seen my bird prints?

These tall tales we see of complex apps being generated entirely LLMs, or legacy codebases being ported to new platforms in just a few hours... If they're not accompanied by actual code we can look at, or working software we can test, you can safely conclude it didn't happen.

So far, it never has. Not a single verifiable example.

uspol, anti-trans persecution

while I wasn't looking the USA simply banned me from entering the country even on a tourist visa erininthemorning.com/p/marco-r
not that I was about to, but you know.

if you're trans you legally can't get a visa anymore. so if you're both trans and Third World you can't get a travel visa or step into the country at all (dunno how much that is being/will be enforced). also applies if you're cis and inter, or look gnc or atypical in any way; a border cop having "reasonable suspicion" you're not cis is enough for deportation.

this is your monthly reminder that if you have built a nice community on mastodon and enjoy being here, you should really setup a monthly sub to help pay your instance admin for their work.

If you're able too, having a majority of users pay a few bucks a month makes it far less likely your admin is gonna get burnt out or your instance is going to randomly shut down one day.

this is real labor right

#iocaine up for 1 day 1h, spent 12h 50.131s generating 10.5G of garbage, using 28.8M (peak: 33.4M) memory.

medication

@joepie91 No, you're supposed to peel that sticker off and put it on yourself

medication

One of my medications says "handle with care" on the box and I don't think I've ever had *fragile* medication before...

But that clip is not reality. It is a haphazard blend of imagery both real and imagined by Hollywood, along with the industry’s and archives’ historical biases. Sora, like other generative AI programs such as Runway and Luma Dream Machine, scrapes content from the internet and other digital material. As a result, these platforms are simply recycling the limitations of online media, and no doubt amplifying the biases. Yet watching it, we understand how an audience might be fooled. Cinema is powerful that way.

High-key want generative AI banned at this point but that's like banning guns and alcohol: two things now affixed to the idea of ... at this point? masculinity ... so it won't go until we do a lot more

Neither seems to have *any* interface settings at all..

Err, correction, in Gnumeric, the cursor is white on a white background.

I have to wonder if anyone ever tested any of this at all

Wow. Neither Gnumeric nor Calligra Sheets pass my 10-minute test with a dark system theme. In Gnumeric, the cursor is black (on a black background). In Calligra Sheets, the default text is black (on a black background) once out of editing mode.

it's called ssh-keygen but doesn't even play cool tracker music?

I like that there's a number of orgs that advertise via stickers. If they didn't, I'd probably never find out about them, because I'm so terribly isolated.
