@Paradox @schratze Though I gotta hand it to them, it's impressive how they managed to get both a penis *and* a swastika in there at the same time

FYI, someone on birdsite is organizing a protest at Cloudflare's HQ in SF to get them to drop KF: twitter.com/keffals/status/156

Keep fascists out of your spaces and their memes out of your mind. Normalization is their weapon of choice, but it requires them to wait for *you* to start repeating or laughing at *their* jokes.

:anarchy:

@tindall@cybre.space While an interesting change, the way the article is written really confuses me - io_uring is a Linux-specific thing to address Linux-specific problems, and surely the underlying concepts behind io_uring have been attempted before in other microkernels? But the article frames it as if Linux is leading the way in research here somehow...

printer rant, cursing

@silvermoon82@tech.lgbt @00Ni So interestingly it seems like there's been a bit of a resurgence lately of laser printers aimed at consumers but still with roughly the same reliability (especially from companies like Samsung) - which has created the curious situation where a lot of home printing is moving back from color to monochrome :p

printer rant, cursing

@silvermoon82@tech.lgbt @00Ni FWIW, laser printers seem to fare *way* better on both reliability, lifespan, and consumable cost, even the cheapo tiny monochrome ones. They tend to cost more than inkjets in purchase price, though.

(I have one of the more expensive options to desperately try and buy my way out of printer misery, a Brother DCP-L8410CDW, and to my surprise it's been *basically* trouble-free since!)

printer rant, cursing

printer and everything around them make me irrationally mad. why the fuck do you only want ink from your company, when other ink works, too? why does my ink cartridge needs a chip? why do all these different companies need different methods to put fucking ink in their shitty ink spitters? i know the answer is capitalism, but i am still irrationally mad and want to do unspekable things to the designers of these abominations.

food (requesting cooking recipes). :boost_request:

@kescher Oh no, hope you get better soon! :heart_nb:

How about zuurkoolstamppot? eg. ohmydish.com/recipe/zuurkoolst (err on the side of too much pepper rather than too little!)

Not 100% sure whether milk/butter substitutes have the same effect as regular milk/butter, but worst case you can just leave them out (it'll just be drier). Personally I prefer to undercook the sauerkraut a bit, for a more sour-ish taste. If you leave out the bacon (and/or substitutes), definitely add *something* else oily to it, or it'll become super dry!

Gamers will complain about pride flags in Spider-Man and have a PC that looks like this

Sod it, at the risk of doxxing myself, do you do accessibility?
Do you want to work with me?

I'm recruiting for an "Accessibility Consultant"
Has to be in the UK (sadly)
Very varied stuff, almost all of it is good for the environment, and all of it helps people (in theory)
DM me if you want to know more.

Love how the design rationale behind Vulkan seems to boil down to "none of these vendors can be trusted to read a fucking spec, so let's make it as low-level as possible so that they just *can't* fuck it up even if they tried"

@kescher @maia I love how people talk about 'ad fraud' as if the entire concept of ads isn't fraudulent in and of itself

Imagine how much better the world would be if everybody just learned three things:
1. Don't propose replacing or abolishing a solution until you understand what led to its creation
2. ... but don't assume that traditional/widespread solutions *or* people with more experience are automatically correct, either!
3. Discussions should be like a collaborative project, not like a competitive debate
