FOSS Rec? (Help Wanted)

@eleanorkonik @Lindsaythelibrarian@scholar.social Hmmm. I'm trying to understand their business model, but the Pricing page links to an OpenCollective...? But they're hiring...?

Do you happen to know how this all fits together?

@stolas_mk2@tech.lgbt In NL, it's typically called "minigolf".

@kim @ln@chaos.social Honestly I'd unironically love to see a caffeine-free version of both

@kim @ln@chaos.social Hmm, I'd say that there are *some* exceptions to that - Monster Mango comes to mind (which definitely tastes more like juice), and Lidl's blackcurrant energy drink (this one might be specific to NL?) which tastes like more intense and slightly lemon-y blackcurrant soda.

@DuckForTheDuck Ahzo.

I can't move to the Fediverse properly until I reproduce my famous pinned post from the birdsite, so here it is:

P.S.A. To all vintage computer and video game collectors:

Go through your collections and GET THE DAMN BATTERIES OUT!

Now! Don't wait! Seriously, put down the phone, go to your collection and take out all the batteries. Right now! Even if they look "okay" they are NOT SAFE after this much time.

@aeva@mastodon.social Oh and of course they're still sending migration threats to people who have already opted out, because apparently Google can't afford to do accurate statekeeping for a few thousand accounts

@aeva@mastodon.social Well... they've been backpeddling already, offering "non-commercial" users the option to "opt out of the transition" and keep their old free plan with no billing "for the foreseeable future", so I think somebody over there finally woke up

Of course this is wayyyyyy too late and they've already lost the trust of everybody, and people seem to be using it mostly to get an extension of their migration timeline

Huh, since when do YouTube's auto captions work in picture-in-picture mode?

Hope they're happy with their 0.01% operational cost savings 🙃

Also keep in mind that probably a good chunk of people using Legacy were early adopters, tech-savvy teenagers who now have some sort of important role at a tech company... I'm not sure Google quite realizes what a massive faux pas this whole thing is

I find it hilarious how Google trying to force Legacy Apps users to upgrade to a paid plan, has resulted mainly in people upgrading to a paid plan *with different companies entirely* and jumping ship from Google anyway

@maia @AgathaSorceress@eldritch.cafe Ahhh yeah that sounds like an entirely different flow from what I used

@zkat I mean, they did call it 'Discord', can't say you didn't get a warning there :p
