meta, hachyderm, corporate capture

Heads-up for any folks on hachyderm.io: I would recommend picking a different instance, as it seems likely that it'll get defederated from quite a few places at some point.

They seem to not only be happy with corporate accounts[1], but also apparently seek to "introduce trust with corporations" [and draw them to fedi?], which uhhhh yeah no.

This is a space for people, not for corporations. Let's not repeat the errors of the FOSS community (that eventually led to near-total corporate capture of FOSS) by inviting corporations into our spaces, not even "as long as they play nice".

it's an attempt to make somewhat of a protective shell around the Mastodon 4.x changes, so ideally the name reflects that

Thank you for readding this @f0x, we are more mastodons than mastodon is again

it means if you use a mastodon flavor skin it's still fucked atm

i fixed the html injection in a forked glitch-soc repo, but of fucking course glitch-soc actually mostly DUPLICATES the mastodon code in two places, so you have to update the identical Mastodon code too in a different folder for fucks sake you can't make this up

and this might fuckin involve a custom proxy that *does* require authentication for all requests

pixie.town has the two important fixes in glitch-soc backported to whatever 3.x release we were already on, but maintaining that forever is a losing game. I fucking hate the new landing page though so maybe I'll have to find a way to upgrade to V4 but disable all the privacy and security nightmare features

heh i hurried so much to get here 9:30 but now I know there's at least 10 minutes margin before anything happens so I will just hurry for 9:40 next week

I see that @threadunroller@mastodon.social has made it to Mastodon. I have suspended it from religion.masto.host, and will suspend any other content scraping bots I become aware of.

Thread readers scrape content without the consent of the creator, move it to a website outside of the creator's control, and sometimes monetise it, as discussed here:

ohh artemis is not a spacex rocket, that explains why so many are taking about it suddenly

2022 is the year of gotosocial on the desktop 🖕
