@t54r4n1 it really hasn't? there's been recent developments in scrapers using client api's on other servers, making them impossible to block without blockimg that entire server. Also Mastodon 4.x exposes a lot of the client api usable for scraping by default now, even with authorized fetch
@vaguelyweird I'm really happy with my self-hosted code-server for that, but that's also not trivial in setup and maintenance..
@doot@glitterkitten.co.uk @tobi right, as it's a separate service there might be *some* possibilities still, but we'll burn that bridge when we get there
@doot@glitterkitten.co.uk @tobi im intermittently working on a new Mastodon frontend that could prevent some of this, allowing 4.x to disable unauthenticated api while still having working static pages for profiles/threads. Needs more work though, and in your case would also need integration with managed hosting
seems to struggle a lot getting the overview for gargron, so maybe that's a way to overload it :")
it doesn't seem able to list any toots from me, but did autocomplete my username with avatar, so they have a scraped user database for sure.
also no known way to even opt-out, not that that'd be enough. shit like this needs actual consent through opt-in
