Does anyone know where the term "techno-solutionism" (or "technosolutionism") originated from? Is there an original paper/book or did several writers independently coin the term as an extension of solutionism? Boosts appreciated #AIHype

best day?

Many of the reasons corpo-type tech people complain about fedi are the reasons I like it here. That it's run purely by volunteer hobbyists, the anti-brand culture, the lack of a hard central structure of control, lack of profit objectives, or whatever they mean by "scalability" that I hear spoken about all the time. It's what makes it so charming to be here. I don't know if I have a place here without that.

Great read:

> #Signal published a blog post on how we were all different and they were trying to adapt to those differences. Signal was for everyone, told the title. Ironically, that very same day, I’ve lost access to my account.

> I’ve suddenly been excluded from all the conversations with my friends because I very slightly but unacceptably deviated from the norm.

Y'all got any suggestions for a decent set of bluetooth headphones (over the ear please) that are very good at noise canceling, under $100 and will stand up to a goof who would most def sleep in them?

As long as they fit a good build quality and sound and the setup won't make me want to eat it in frustration, I'm good.

Thinking about using some extra funds to get some finally to mainly replace my old set since it's literally falling apart and I want something that I can possibly use with my fire stick and iPad so I can watch tv in peace at night

Just a reminder that the idea of a personal carbon footprint is propaganda invented by British Petroleum (BP) to distract from corporate responsibility for climate change by implying that changes to personal behavior are all we need to prevent global warming.

to clarify it seems to have expired a decade ago so it's not a problem *now*, but it explains why nobody did anything with it in the 3-5 year window where that tech was actually relevant

fucking love software patents

oh, the voxel scape engine was under patent huh? that would explain why nobody ever did anything with similar tech

I contacted the bookstore that's under attack this weekend, and this is what they said:

We are looking to center and protect the kids who come to hear Drag Queen Story time. We are a small store so making sure the protest stays outside is very helpful. You can also direct friends who cannot be present in person to our website: sidetrackbooks.com/

Thank you so much for your support!

Washing machine reached it's final destination and enjoys sunset in France 🌇.

#WashingMachineChallenge2023 was :
- two busses :vrs: :vrn:
- five :db: trains
- six changes
- way too many stairs
- 363 km by public transport
- many confused faces

Okay, the bus driver really didn't want me to enter their bus, but finally agreed. Final part of the #WashingMachineChallange2023 journey in a blue :vrn: bus back to France 🇫🇷.

I stand corrected, apparently you can use an airfryer *and* a microwave on Flemish trains: youtube.com/watch?v=PVHODzAIO4

The reason that the Stadler FLIRT is the best train, is of course that you can fry some snacks in an airfryer on your way to work

Media literacy as government propaganda

Most "media literacy" courses or lessons that are solely focused on "is the source reliable yes or no" are just encouraging people to get their information from government and other "official" sources.

It's not actually teaching people how to critique and examine media it's teaching them to defer to authority. It's maintaining the status quo

They act like media literacy is going "this centrist newspaper is the most reliable source so I'll only listen to what it says"

@thufie borders?? the only borders I support are the bright red ones around uncaptioned media
