See, updating Linux is easy. All you need is
-your distro's package manager
-something to help you keep track of third-party repos (AUR, PPAs)
-Snapd
-Flatpak
-something to keep track of your AppImages

You can choose from a variety of GUI applications, each one of which will do between one and four of these things

Let me give you an example of a fake Instagram influencer finding his way onto the Fediverse.

Look at this guy:

https://www.instagram.com/mronevibe/

He has 253K followers on Instagram. Mostly fake.

He also has a Pixelfed account right here:

https://pixelfed.social/i/web/profile/444567745991109534

Zero posts, but 76 followers.

Who are his followers?

Take a look at this screenshot. They're all fake Instagram influencers who buy fake followers.

@mjgardner

So many people citing Henry Toureau and his Walden to evoke the idea of running away from social media and hide from trackers. To isolate and reconnect with the environment. “Walden-ponding”

I’m sorry to break the illusion but according to his diaries, his mum and sister visited him daily to wash his clothes and cook lunch. The cabin was 15min walking distance from the family house, it was built in his friend’s land for free and the lake next to it had swimmers in summer and skiers in winter 😂✨

@thufie the pixie town economy depends on it's lustrous posting fields and rich content mines

if a service gets OOM-killed and restarts without anyone noticing, did it ever really happen?

listen. the idea that the state and its military and intelligence agencies are everywhere and all-powerful and always a step ahead of you - that IS the propaganda. that IS the counterinsurgency.

cryptoshit, funny

Cryptoshit has truly become a parody of itself... "do your own research at this conveniently provided page written by us"

"Can you explain this gap in your resume?"

"Yes, I used LaTeX and couldn't fix that bit"

The best time to start wearing an n95 (ffp2 for thise of us in Europe) or better mask in public was spring 2020, but the second best time is now #CovidIsNotOver

Try this fun game.

Imagine you live a hundred years.
That's 36,525 days.
Imagine you get to spend 20,000 dollars a day, every single day.

Yup you're a newborn spending 20 k a day, stay with me.

You'd die a 100 years later and you would have spent 730,500,000. That's 730.5 million dollars.

You'd be very rich, but still would not be able to call yourself a billionaire.

No one "earns" that. No one needs that.

Billionaires should not exist.

Edit: Ajusted for leap years.

twitter app API keys

Oh no gist.github.com/pvieito/ee6d2c

It sure would be a shame if people used that to bypass the API payment requirements

people who describe markets as a "system" are bullshitting you

there is nothing inherently intelligent about a market and I wish economists and market anarchists would stop talking about it in terms of complex systems when they are talking entirely out of their asses. There is no emergent intelligence, or consistently beneficial properties, that can be quantified. If anything it is a pristine example of a completely non self-regulating chaotic mess that will spit out different outcomes with minor random changes in its environment which are difficult to plan for.

No, its all bullshit. Actually the people who benefit from this are the ones aware of the chaos, who can take advantage of how disorganized everything is, and create auxilliary systems of control like finance.

There's a special kind of disdain aimed at anything web-related, and I'm so sick of it

And don't bother correcting any of the hundreds of misconceptions and outright false claims that float around, because people immediately get very angry at you as if you've personally wronged them

I wonder if people realize how much of software development is just translating between slightly incompatible APIs and formats

"queer culture" shitpost, food

me, glaring at my unhealthy queer friends: lesbian culture is eating your vegetables. bisexual culture is going outside and taking a walk
