So at what point do we make the same link between Rails and DHH that we made between HP and JRK? Like I know a lot of people use Rails but I’m definitely starting to feel the susness

@aurynn A developer sees themselves more like a young person hacking away at something for fun. This is still held as an ideal. They don’t tend to see themselves as a professional contributor/operator of an important social system with serious responsibilities.

All of which is essentially unfit for someone trying to affect the culture of a social space that emphasises the importance of culture over convenience. Arguably, the archetypal developer struggles with that very idea.

The fact you're looking at this on an ActivityPub-enabled Fediverse app demonstrates that a community of focused individuals can create a global-scale network around an open standard that rivals (or, frankly, beats) pretty much anything capitalism could create, even at its 'best'.

And these communities create without profit motive - just because they share a vision and think it'd be a good thing. All they require is sustainability, not exploitative profit.

I think that's worth celebrating.

If I have to prove I'm not a computer by identifying traffic lights and busses, perhaps we're not quite ready for self-driving cars.
