When you're looking through an old forum thread and it hits you with the ol

You don't need to use weird spellings or algospeak for any topics on the Fediverse ("unalived", "seggs" etc). There is no automated moderation or algorithm on here, moderation happens entirely through human beings and posts are shown in chronological order.

In fact it's better that you use the correct spellings for difficult topics so that people with genuine traumas related to them can filter them more easily.

Random gamedev thought: I wonder what the easiest way to do Tetris is. One could treat each figure as three hardcoded offset coordinates * four rotations (the rotation point always being the 0,0 non-offset, not needing to be stored.

Then when the block moves L/R or Down, a point/cell collision check is run for the future position of point 0,0 and the three offsets (which vary by figure type and rotation).

Trying to save memory by doing dynamic matrix rotation just seems like unnecessary work.

Ran across the phrase "growth at the rate of trust" (h/t @kawaiipunk), and it summarizes my feelings about a lot of things (social media included) so well

And you don't actually need to *understand* any of the code. Just skim it, glance at function names, things that visually stand out, the general shape of the code. You can skim it at scrolling speed and it'll work!

I feel like SNCF are taunting me. I need a reservation... but they won't sell me one :omya_reservierungspflicht:

Something I've learned through my dependency auditing work: "linearly skimming or reading a whole codebase in alphabetical folder/file order" is vastly more effective for understanding a codebase's structure than it has any right to be

Why is it that every Python codebase is always like 80% boilerplate and I have to go on a quest to find the actual (usually pretty simple) business logic underpinning the whole thing

So this is a thing that is VERY VERY much nowhere near done yet, but I want to share what I've got so far. It's a list of as many retro games as I can find which had a trans person on the dev team or otherwise involved in some way, along with a quick summary of who and what they did. It's partially an attempt to counter the narrative that trans people are some New Thing that's only just showed up on the gameing scene and also society in general, which sometimes these kinds of lists can accidentally imply, and also it's just kind of a fun bit of HEY LOOK AT ALL THIS COOL SHIT TRANS PEOPLE DID. I've found over 170 games so far, with quite a lot I'm still to properly go off on.

(Edit: That's over 260 games now. Thank you SO much people who've pointed me at stuff I've missed. I'll be working on trying to play all of these and write up stuff about the ones I haven't really said anything about yet.)

why are there books that contain nothing but text and yet they are not textbooks

subposting, bigotry

@mynameistillian so maybe don't validate to them their idea that some people are inherently lesser and that we all secretly agree with them on that? maybe don't tell them that their enemies are a threat to them because of biological advantages? maybe don't reinforce their idea that eugenics is necessary to control the racialized other and to strengthen their white in-group?

show them that they suck *because of their own actions*, that they have no excuse of race or biology

subposting, bigotry

@mynameistillian to point out that they fall short of their own standards does nothing. hell, a huge chunk of modern nazis are incels who define themselves through self-hatred. they feel entitled to be superior by right of blood and are angry that they aren't, like this was denied to them. 'race realists' will often say black people are stronger, asians are smarter, etc, dispite believing that white people are the most valuable. this is bc other races are seen as threats

subposting, bigotry

@mynameistillian if you can't tear them down verbally without resorting to ableism then you just don't have the rhetorical skill to pick that fight

besides, it's a misapprehension that nazis believe themselves to be inherently genetically superior. the aryan race was a mythical extinct race the nazis sought to rebuild through ugenics, with themselves as the start point. they believe that supremacy was already stolen from them through race-mixing

subposting, bigotry

@mynameistillian what it is is an obstinate refusal to learn, to be better, to accept the reality of living in a society as a member of a social species. it's pathetic

and fuck that person you're talking about. goddamn it is not 'weak' to not accept and reinforce the hateful rhetoric of our enemies. we don't call nazis inbred r-slurs, we punch them in the face

you can be as savage as you want with them but if your only idea for how is to adopt their language then you're lost
