Swe pol, homelessness

So there's a new law allowing people to be banned from specific swedish libraries. It seems rather targeted at homeless people.

There's been a rather unofficial culture of libraries being safe havens.
This seems like an attack on that.
They talk about keeping in mind what the purpose of a library is, and they seem to describe that purpose as just reading books.

Stealing this from twitter from someone who stole it from someone who stole it, but this time I've added the alt text

tech, dark patterns

I did some research for a talk I’ll hold later this month so I took a look at a very long list of open source cookie consent libraries.

On this huge list, there where 3 entries that had a demo available and where compliant to EU law while not using any dark patterns.

I didn’t count the ones that where not compliant but it was a multitude.

One would think that most people working on open source stuff care about privacy and ethical design but that doesn’t seem to be the case

Hello toot friends, I bring #antiLawn memes.
I'm hoping to radicalise you all against the boring monoculture lawn and turn you into biodiversity defenders.

Waiting for my train and just appreciating the infrastructure.
Only two car lanes. Two bike lanes, partially raised. Tram and bus stations next to the train station. Bike parking. Safety island for crossing. Departing trams have straighter path than arriving ones because they speed up. Covered bus stops with the realtime schedule.

#Security: we make sure we won’t pass your data to anyone who hasn’t paid us for it

#Privacy: we won’t manipulate you or interfere with your life

#DataProtection: fairness, lawfulness, transparency, minimisation, adequacy, storage limitation, security, accountability

Security without privacy and data protection; is just another vehicle for imposing tyranny

Giving different reverse image searches a picture of a car...

Google: "Hmmm... potato? Okay, here's two other boats"
Yandex: "Ah yes, a BrandName Modelname from 1981 in teal blue, in front of wood paneling with indoors lighting, here's 20 other pictures like that"

It's frankly disturbing how accurate Yandex is (also with faces)... what the hell kind of tech are they using there? And it better not be used in a fucking drone

Looking for a job (EU only) :boost_ok:

So I'm looking for a job again...
As a software engineer with 15 years of experience, some of it as a sole architect, some of it leading a team, working mostly on medium-scale systems with complex backends (having worked in e-commerce, utilities, banking/payments, etc). Plus a formal education in theoretical mathematics.
Primary experience is with C#/.NET and also TS/Node.js (can also do React).
But also want to try Rust or FP languages (such as elixir), and open to any stack basically (I can learn fast!) and any industry (besides cryptocurrencies or law enforcement or shit like that of course).
Been both commended and criticized for meticulous code review, setting a high bar of code quality, focusing on other developers experience, and not letting at least some of the bugs and vulnerabilities creep by.
Some of my code and projects are at oomza.cutegay.software/inga-lo ; another example is oomza.cutegay.software/blahaj-

I only speak English (but trying to learn German and Spanish).
And the employer needs to be in EU (preferably in Berlin, or it will have to be up to 100% remote depending on the distance to Berlin); I have an unrestricted work permit in Germany.
Hoping for an inclusive and diverse place (I would add a pleading emoji here but it will probably be misinterpreted by a target audience :blobcatgiggle:).

using nix-shell is sooo nice for projects (it even works on non-NixOS, you just need Nix installed)

a good definition of "here are all the tools/dependencies you need to run/test this project"

here's the shell.nix for pages, even providing a custom not-yet-packaged build of Pebble, the ACME test server

Isn´t it cool that women and trans people are having their rights questioned/taken away? And nothing much seems to happen to counter that so far.

Every day I become a little bit more left and a little bit more radical.

Weird to think that only like 2 years ago I was one of those bench sitting lefties who thought that even talking about politics online was a bad thing.

And it is an issue for everyone. I believe that these things have the potential to cross borders easily

Trans men, trans boys, and non-binary people are also impacted by abortion laws.

It's good to remember them when talking about abortion access.

Like, I get that it's easier to just say women or women and girls, but trans men/boys and non-binary people will still be facing the same deadly risk, and are already pretty invisible in all of this.

Visibility is important and saves lives.

someone really named it Bath Spa University and didn't see a problem with it

Can we please get away from "cis straight christian white rich male" captialism and build a society that is more than telling everybody they can achieve that (and get exploited to the last bit in the process)?

the moment it gains "legitimacy" is when we start having to play nice with the people who will usurp and kick us out of the spaces we fucking built

fuck legitimacy and respectability. corporations and governments can fuck off.
