Try this fun game.

Imagine you live a hundred years.
That's 36,525 days.
Imagine you get to spend 20,000 dollars a day, every single day.

Yup you're a newborn spending 20 k a day, stay with me.

You'd die a 100 years later and you would have spent 730,500,000. That's 730.5 million dollars.

You'd be very rich, but still would not be able to call yourself a billionaire.

No one "earns" that. No one needs that.

Billionaires should not exist.

Edit: Ajusted for leap years.

@jaywink That's not mutually exclusive with using these API keys; the "migrate your follows to Mastodon" tools for example rely on API access (as do any hypothetical tools that make Twitter's life more difficult)

twitter app API keys

Oh no gist.github.com/pvieito/ee6d2c

It sure would be a shame if people used that to bypass the API payment requirements

people who describe markets as a "system" are bullshitting you

there is nothing inherently intelligent about a market and I wish economists and market anarchists would stop talking about it in terms of complex systems when they are talking entirely out of their asses. There is no emergent intelligence, or consistently beneficial properties, that can be quantified. If anything it is a pristine example of a completely non self-regulating chaotic mess that will spit out different outcomes with minor random changes in its environment which are difficult to plan for.

No, its all bullshit. Actually the people who benefit from this are the ones aware of the chaos, who can take advantage of how disorganized everything is, and create auxilliary systems of control like finance.

re: sarcasm

@thufie I'm more thinking about the endless (wrong) claims about performance and resource usage, complaints about development tooling, dismissing all libraries as if they can't possibly serve a legitimate purpose, etc.

There's a special kind of disdain aimed at anything web-related, and I'm so sick of it

And don't bother correcting any of the hundreds of misconceptions and outright false claims that float around, because people immediately get very angry at you as if you've personally wronged them

@thufie Everything in the US does recruitment for the military, it seems

I wonder if people realize how much of software development is just translating between slightly incompatible APIs and formats

@rune I mean, as soon as I cross the border from NL -> BE, my mobile internet always immediately goes to shit as well

"queer culture" shitpost, food

me, glaring at my unhealthy queer friends: lesbian culture is eating your vegetables. bisexual culture is going outside and taking a walk

Infodump on my Display Kit re-use project

Also contains lots of loose info on Type-C P/D alt-mode (DisplayPort) negotiation and implementation options that might be interesting (or totally wrong, this is all pretty new to me)

In general I’m at a bit of a crossroads in the project now, unsure what option to design around since none seem particularly enticing…

Periodic reminder that we are not anything like "post"-pandemic. We are mid-pandemic; Peri-pandemic; Right smack dab in the fucking middle of a goddam pandemic and no amount of squeezing our eyes shut and plugging our ears and going "la la la it's not real" while wishing it were otherwise will make it so.

It's 2023. "Gosh, we didn't realize how people would misuse this" just isn't believable anymore.

Bare minimum, with any new tech:
1) How would a stalker use this?
2) What will 4chan do with this?

And don't release, not even as alpha or beta, before mitigating those risks.

Have several options to look into — thanks all! Will be muting now

Is there a well-regarded bicycle-themed instance? I’m trying to get my husband to join Mastodon and this is his major interest

More people need to ask themselves "who does this line of argument serve?" before engaging in discourse
