#ArmoedeInNederland

Has anyone built a federated phpBB-style forum compatible with ActivityPub? I would love to be able to participate in #gamedev or #nesdev discussions on something that looks like traditional indexed forums, but with the convenience of using my same account!

@Gankra I suspect that this was just as unsurprising to the folks who wrote that article as it has been for years to many language security/ergonomics folks, but they had to be nice and couldn't write "I fucking told you so"

for folks who don't know, google specifically has like, the Most Advanced C++ Bug Catching/Mitigation Tools, to the point that they *took over the development of clang*

just using rust instead, even with 'unsafe' parts, completely blew all of that out of the water! holy shit!

obsessed with this article by the Android team. just looking at the graphs it's like "rust go up, exploits go down" security.googleblog.com/2022/1

also holy shit Android has a lot of rust code now

It really annoys me when people go "well, big companies are complicated, they are not single entities with consistent decisionmaking" in response to criticism of such companies and their actions

As if that's somehow a justification, rather than a clear sign that they've clearly grown to a scale where they are unaccountable and fundamentally cannot be trusted, and without ever asking the question of "wait but then how can we ever hold anybody accountable for anything?"

misskey-forkbomb.cf should be suspended and purged not just on Misskey and its forks, but also all other software instances because it puts a lot of empty noise into all databases.

@charlotte @meena The "Tag across Europe" series on YouTube very quickly got hilarious once they entered Germany as well

@esther@strangeobject.space More seriously, I vaguely recall someone actually making a vtop-like tool called 'bottom'

lewd?

@esther@strangeobject.space Unfortunately the top/bottom ratio rarely seems to be 1:1 like that

Though I guess that if it was gonna happen in any show, this was always a pretty good candidate

Well, I sure didn't expect to find "OpenStreetMap contributors" in the credits of a TV show

ableism rant

@shrinkthinks That sort of take is also just incredibly ableist, from a neurodiversity point of view. "People cannot possibly have different equally valid ways of experiencing social interaction from the ones I have, society would fall apart without eye contact", to paraphrase the general sentiment.

not now sweetie, daddy is trying to match the font that a corporation uses in their promotional materials so that he can abuse them in their own language

You know what's really lovely about having a post favorited by someone here on Mastodon? It means something I've said resonated with someone. And that's pretty damned priceless as far as I'm concerned. So, yeah, favoriting doesn't 'do' anything except make someone feel good. Isn't that reason enough?

re: ADHD-friendly notetaking software idea

@pinoaffe I specifically don't want to look at existing things, because it will take me entirely too many spoons to untangle all the stuff I *don't* care about

re: Looking for feedback on an ADHD-friendly notetaking software idea, long :boost_requested:

@f0x Isn't there some limit above which it breaks federation?
