@shrinkthinks That sort of take is also just incredibly ableist, from a neurodiversity point of view. "People cannot possibly have different equally valid ways of experiencing social interaction from the ones I have, society would fall apart without eye contact", to paraphrase the general sentiment.

@joepie91 @shrinkthinks extremely ableist against so many assistive communication users, ND people, people who use sign language, people with any vision or hearing issues, and also complete fucking nonsense from a communications-scholarship perspective.
yes, there are 100% social cues your average person does in speech, there are also an entire new set in online communications. because humans adapt, and not everyone has EVER been able to communicate using the same script, or wanted to!
