As an autistic person, I sound like I'm just an AI pretty frequently with how I write texts. However, unlike AI, I am perfectly willing to discuss pipe bombs.

@clarfonthey This reminds me of the widespread adage that "users lie, so asking them what they need will not get you useful answers".

The people repeating this line invariably have never considered that maybe they're just asking it wrong. Which they are, because they usually ask "what would you do" (ie. a technical question) and not "what frustrates you" (ie. a needs question).

A/B testing is kinda a good representation of the lack of trust and consent in modern tech

it's basically gaslighting your users because either you don't trust them to know what they want, or because you want something that's counter to their needs

Reminder that being nice rarely changes anything, MLK & Rosa Parks

>> In the months leading to the moment Parks was arrested and taken off that Montgomery bus, she (...) had participated in strategy sessions and discussions about challenging segregation laws and social codes."

And above all - there were MANY MORE people who participated in civil disobedience and disruptive behavior.
Asking nicely will not change the Status Quo.

Reminder that being nice rarely changes anything, MLK & Rosa Parks

>> (Rosa) Parks was not simply a woman who showed up on the bus one day while going about her daily business, refused to move, got arrested and immediately changed America. She was a committed activist and civil-rights warrior who over the course of her lifetime had grown used to fighting (sometimes physically). >>>

Reminder that being nice rarely changes anything, MLK & Rosa Parks

>> During his lifetime, (Rev Martin Luther) King was often called a communist, and jailed and banned from cities. People — white and black — considered him disruptive, impertinent, impatient, a fame-seeker and more. He was tailed and surveilled by the FBI and, of course, ultimately murdered because of his activism and ideas. >>>

"Activism is, in most instances disruptive. It is often messy. And activists themselves are often imperfect, saddled with enough idealism and naiveté to do something but sometimes do it in less than ideal ways. (...) their ideas are often rejected, ridiculed or demonized. >>>

@eth0 What is the public health policy going to be?

You can extinguish tear gas canisters!

Wearing heat-proof gloves, submerge the canister in a wide-mouthed water jug containing baking soda, dish soap, and/or vegetable oil—3 tablespoons of each per liter of water.

Cover the top with one hand, just enough to keep the gas from getting out, and shake the jug.

Never seal a bottle containing an active tear gas canister—you don't want it to explode.

One role you could play at demonstrations is to show up prepared to protect your fellow human beings from toxic gas, in case the mercenaries deploy it.

@Remittancegirl @corbden@defcon.social I suspect you may be running into the (widespread) problem of historical revisionism here.

I've been involved in some non-hierarchical movements, and absolutely without exception, any reporting about it (by eg. journalists) tried to declare someone a leader even though they weren't, with journalists frequently insisting that there *must* be a leader somewhere when we talked to them.

I think it's reasonable to expect that this has happened to historical movements too, and so decentralized movements would have been incorrectly reported as having a hierarchy, eventually making it into the historical record that way, and creating a false impression of every successful movement having been hierarchical.

Note also that the linked bug implies that the NixOS Foundation hadn't actually submitted their tax documents to the authorities for at least 3 years. The NixOS Foundation pays every year 1000€ for a part time admin assistant as well as 1600€ for a tax consultancy. Good use of sponsor and donation money if you ask me!

More than 6 months ago I was posting here about the fact that the #nixos leadership transition was a complete joke, illustrated by the fact that the board announced they were replacing edolstra (board chair at the time) but clearly didn't: mastodon.delroth.net/@delroth/

You'll be happy to hear that as of today, edolstra is still board member, both "on paper" (officially) and also in practice, as proven by e.g. github.com/NixOS/foundation/is

Nothing changed since May 2024 and the board lied as usual.

@catsalad best synergy of Thinkpad lid led, and sticker I've found so far

Hey euroqueers, do any of you know someone in NL who’s good people and looking for a quiet, respectful and queer trans roommate? Putting out feelers for my friend who’s escaping the US and looking for a place to land. He’s an IF writer and doesn’t need a lot of space but would like to be around decent people.

Please boost!

I said a while back:

I've been on HRT for a couple years now so I've seen a lot of changes when looking into mirrors, but the most important one is that the person on the other side seems to be smiling more.
