In the retraction blog is a screenshot (https://transfemscience.org/assets/images/powers-legal-threat-emails.png) of a lengthy correspondence where Powers admits the talk that was criticised was erroneous, accuses Trans Fem Science of being "online harpies", and repeatedly pulls the "look what you made me do" trope while refusing to identify the false defamatory statement he is alleging they made specifically.

Dr Will Powers, famous for his hrt transition "method" and more recently for promoting Ivermectin as a solution to coronavirus, has forced a Trans Fem science and research blog to retract an article about him using the threat of a SLAPP lawsuit.

Mastodon meta / lightly touching my own experiences. (trauma)
I'm on the verge of tears, and I'm not even involved with the stuff that's been coming out over the past day or two.
Just watching people having to go through the same conversations with Gargron/Eugen (Mastodon's creator) again, and all my trauma is just resurfacing.
I used to work with Eugen, I thought I could be some kind of conduit to help him listen to and understand the community's concerns, you know the communities that needs the most protection, not the facists.
I'm not going to pretend that I knew what I was doing, or was even near perfect when I did that work. There was so many things I didn't understand yet, for example about harassment, racism and especially anti-blackness. About micro-agressions and so so much more.
I've been on here since april 2017, and I've always cared for this community. And yes, there are so many different aspects and communities on here. How do I delineat who I'm talking about? I'm talking about the people who came to mastodon because of the tagline
"Like Twitter but no Nazis". I'm talking about you.
I don't remember the actual wording anymore, but once there was a joinmastodon, which we also had to push hard to even get, it was right there "No Nazis.
Now we're sitting here, and watching Gargron wring his hands about .art silencing his server because, he is still actively federating with servers that has known facists on it. How did we get here? I honestly don't know.
His server which we already know has grown all too big years ago, and he keeps pushing moderators away, or not paying them enough for their work when they are the sole moderators.
Apparently he's currently the sole moderator, and this has made him an expert in moderation needs, and this is why we have the new report system which is absolute trash. Screenshot attached.
Every thing we hear, it's always worse, it's always the tip of the ice berg. And yeh, I know I'm mentioning recent stuff and not only my own experiences. The issues is, when I start talking about my experiences, the ones that particularly affect me I get physically ill. But I'm going to copy paste some of the inefficiently described things I explained to a friend today. So please bear with me.

Because a few people have tried this already:
Please DO NOT try to replace another fedi instance with a GoToSocial deployment on the same domain, with the same username. This will almost certainly cause issues with federation due to public/private keys changing, and it is not something we support.
In the future, we’ll try to provide a proper migration path between GtS and other fedi servers. But in the meantime we recommend deploying GtS at a subdomain that hasn’t been in use yet, like fedi.[example.org] or social.[example.org].
Your enthusiasm about GtS is appreciated! But if you try to drop-in GtS in place of a preexisting fedi server, and things break, we will not be able to help you with them.

So far, things are going well - this is my first attempt to write a 'real' parser with the parser generator library I've been working on, and I basically have half of a JSON parser now, after like 20 minutes of work
I'm very happy right about now that I built a good debug output feature into my parser generator library... that 'abc,32' is definitely wrong

Turns out Twitter was the cage, not the bird
@queerterpreter Ah, those are essentially 'bridges' of sorts, like virtual accounts that replicate their corresponding Twitter posts so that fedi users can follow Twitter accounts as well. Their use is somewhat controversial.

@rune Maybe @f0x can elaborate more on this, but my understanding for the moderation policy on pixie.town is that instance bans are based on user reports plus intermittent following of #FediBlock posts, but not explicitly replicating other instances' banlists.
And I can definitely confirm that whatever process we have here is *very* effective, I virtually never see shitheads anywhere.
@rune Someone once pointed out to me that utility companies have a very different set of priority tiers: just "ASAP" and "yesterday". The latter for anything that goes zap or boom.
@silvermoon82@tech.lgbt Honestly, I disagree here. We don't *have* to accept this. Instances that grow unsustainably large can be left to decay by themselves, as already happens to a degree with them getting defederated.
Compromising with bad actors before they've even noticed you is the equivalent of inviting a vampire into your home.
