re: ADHS, Tipps, Tricks (English)
@Kirra@digitalcourage.social The realization (as pointed out by someone on Twitter, ironically), that you don't actually *have* to follow the unwritten rules and norms.
Can't get yourself to unload the washing machine in time? Just run it another cycle. Who cares.
Can't find the energy to sort out stuff on the floor immediately? Just dump it into one big storage bin so that you have space to walk and a less busy environment, and sort it out later. Who cares.
Can't deal with phone ringtones interrupting your day? Just put your phone on permanently silent and call people back later. Who cares. (This one obviously does not apply to everybody's situation)
@rune Where do I find this esteemed duck?
Positive news!
I've been communicating with the admin of mstdn.io , and that one particular user who was a member of an Italian neo-nazi group has been suspended. The admin also told me they've closed registration there for the past few months to try to get things under control and get on top of moderation. I'll be keeping an eye and working with them to see how things go, with an aim to moving to a silence then entirely lifting the domain block if things go well 💪
It just occurred to me that across the 4,000 #Mastodon servers each with their #MastoAdmin plus their moderator teams... we have more content moderators tracking reports and complaints than Twitter does.
For the folks who keep asking about how we're going to scale, we're on it.
re: Risks to Mastodon with increasing popularity
@fiercemilder (A lot of the commenters in that thread also seem to be under the mistaken assumption that the success condition for the fediverse is "universal adoption")
re: Risks to Mastodon with increasing popularity
@fiercemilder By and large, this is only a risk from the "everybody should use Mastodon" perspective, though. From the "fostering a safe community" perspective, the problem is very quickly solved with a defed.
Birdsite never managed to come through for this one, but maybe Mastodon will: I have an HP C3750, a PA-RISC workstation which is absolutely badass. However, despite countless attempts, I simply cannot find the right version of HP-UX to install on this machine.
Does anyone here maybe have any original media, or any tips or anything to help me along? I've been at this for over a year now.
This is the OpenPA page for this machine: https://www.openpa.net/systems/hp-visualize_b1000_c3000_c3600.html
Going to try a thing: white guys, please boost!!
Comment here if you're: queer and/or BIPOC and you are interested in talking about #TTRPGs #GameDesign #LARP or #games #art so we can create some discoverability for marginalized folks trying to find community with each other
I'll start! I'm a queer trans nb person who designs and publishes tabletop games and LARPs about gender and queerness. My jam lately has been happy games about queer people finding love and community
re: CW meta
@jfhbrook Understandable. Don't hesitate to ask folks for help here with specific questions, if that makes it easier :)
Attention #union friends, members, and allies! Courtesy of @aurynn 's inquiry, I have decided to start a union-oriented Mastodon instance to give union people a home on the #fediverse.
union.place is coming soon - I am not at all artistically inclined, though, so I could use help with a server thumbnail (1200x630px), a mascot image (though one of my schnauzers may work :)), and (optionally) a hero image (at least 600x100px)
Reach out if you're interested in helping!
re: CW meta
@jfhbrook No worries. I don't have any documentation handy for the iPhone app unfortunately (only https://gist.github.com/joepie91/f924e846c24ec7ed82d6d554a7e7c9a8), but if you post a #FediHelp post then there might be other people who can help with that!
CW meta
@jfhbrook Regarding the CW thing, I can't find the toot I wanted to link so I'll try my best to summarize it myself instead, though it'll probably be a bit blunter because I'm pretty exhausted after the past week+.
Basically, this space was built by vulnerable folks on a foundation of consent (ie. not as a Twitter replacement), and that is what CWs are about - it's a way to give other folks control over when and on what terms they interact with content that may be distressing, exhausting, or otherwise unpleasant to them.
They're important even if people don't directly follow you because your toots will also end up on the federated/local timelines, in hashtag searches, and so on. Likewise, many people won't boost toots that don't use appropriate CWs, because it will push them in people's faces who might not want to deal with them right then.
I realize that this is different than you might be used to from other platforms, but there's a good reason why those conventions exist here, and the way people actually interact with them is very different from what newcomers often assume (eg. it doesn't "reduce engagement").
Bottom line: please do use them generously, it's part of what makes fedi so nice. Nobody's expecting you to use them perfectly, of course, but it *is* generally expected that you try your best.
This article explains more about the background behind it and other practices on fedi, and what things are currently like from the perspective of folks (me included) who were here before the Twitter influx: https://www.hughrundle.net/home-invasion/
@jfhbrook You can make all CWs auto-expand from the settings (or expand single threads with the eye icon in the corner)
In the process of moving to @joepie91. This account will stay active for the foreseeable future! But please also follow the other one.

Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
