@efi @welshpixie Yeah, that "if all of your devices are compatibility" is a red flag - most likely it's outsourced to India. And the problem there isn't India, but that such outsourced customer support teams almost never actually have access to anything internal, so they just end up being used as underpaid human shields for angry customers :(

(I promise that it's about much more than just "what do X and Y mean"!)

If you're interested in FOSS, UX, community dynamics, terminology/language, communication, accessibility, and how all of these things intersect... this thread is a very fascinating read: forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic

It's like a little microcosm of FreeCAD as a project, the issues it runs into, the (problematic) community dynamics, conflicting interests/priorities, and FOSS accessibility issues

Warning: There’s an app for blurring out sensitive information in images called Obfuscate being featured on #GNOME Software right now.

Please be careful.

The default blur setting can easily be reversed.

The default should be to replace the areas with a solid colour or a pattern not derived from the underlying information.

This really should not be a featured app in its current state.

FOSS bros: If you don't like something on Linux, you can just use a distro that has what you want! Problem solved!!

Me: Is there even a single distro that has usable scroll bars?

@ExperimentV Ahh, I recall a similar incident here with UPC (an ISP) and their shitty marketing strategy; mailing out modems or something to people unsolicited, with a fine print of "if you don't return this, then you accept our offer for $expensiveService"

Plenty of people returned the box with the included return label... just containing bricks instead of the original modem

I didn't know you could tape these "no postage necessary" flyers [envelopes] to boxes. This is a game changer.

@luci computers are so bad for multilingual content because anglophones don't account for it

@schratze icecat is like, the catalog that nearly every online shop uses for categorization and metadata of their products, and they'd be lost without it, so idk, sounds pretty close to "at gunpoint" :D

@schratze I think you can unironically get a job doing that at icecat?

@ben (of course it's no surprise that a bot will be branded as a 'good bot' as soon as it has a commercial "legal business" purpose...)

Auch hier ein kleiner Denkzettel um die Verwirrung um das 9-Euro-Ticket zu lösen 😅

@RileyStarlight (They primarily do PCB prototyping so that's what most of the About text is about, but AFAIK the same limitations apply for their cable manufacturing)

Looking for cable assembly factory.

For a work project, I am looking for a factory that performs cable assembly to order. The factory I have worked with previously has closed, and I can't find another one that wants to accept this order because of "small quantities".

I need the assembly of different types of cables, from one conductor to fifty conductors, from 16AWG to 24AWG. Different types of connectors/terminals. A total of 2300 cables.

Does anyone know of one where I can request a quote? It doesn't matter if it is an international order. Thank you. Boosts welcome.

@RileyStarlight How about dirtypcbs.com/store/cables? Their selection of connectors is somewhat limited, so I'm not sure whether it'd work for your case. Also, make sure to read dirtypcbs.com/about first!
