uni

fucking uni not having their info/shit together just going "oopsie" but punishing students hard when it happens to them is so infuriating

i know just enough kdenlive and blender to know I *can* actually make the shitpost I came up with and then spend way too much time on it

followed some and some more productivity coach types, yuck

i guess that's still kind of a lot, because that's only counting accounts the server actually knew, before suspending them or their instance. would have to make a script that fetches instance user counts to see how many users the blocklist truly covers

LB (colorid.es/@Aster/109848839304): So I've recently learned someone from the mastodon.la staff has made a huge, absurd thread around a month ago weaponizing social issues such as widespread hunger and fossil fuel use against people who "instead" talk about sexual education, transmisia and queermisia (mastodon.la/@SeverianX/1096488).

It contains garbage such as "it seems like the new strategy is directly the criminalization of heterosexual and 'cis' desire" and "according to the new narrative, those who don't accept that a man dressed as a woman 'is really a woman' or those who insist you can't be attracted to someone of the same sex as yours even if they dress as if they were of the opposite sex are immoral".

Some of their allies are trying to spin this into "some Spanish instances are blocking and brigading against a Latin American instance". I don't think this is a good excuse to avoid blocking mastodon.la.

SeverianX also has many alt accounts on other instances.

huh, only 41975 suspended accounts in the database

gotta say death grips mixed with tf2 music sounds kinda wild

we are a strictly antifascist organization. we have zero tolerance for fascism or anything that enables or allows it. (yes that includes capitalism)

We do not work with transphobes/fascists/racists. If you open an issue or PR on our git repo and we see you are one of those things, or hang out with people like that, we will kick you out of our space. We have no patience for bigotry, and we see no reason whatsoever to tolerate having it anywhere near us. Fuck terfs and fuck nazis.

Hello sloth enjoyers! Thank you for helping us test stuff! We fixed a bunch of bugs that were present in the first release candidate for v0.7.0 of GoToSocial, and now the second release candidate is available!

You can grab it here: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/releases/tag/v0.7.0-rc2 or use docker tag superseriousbusiness/gotosocial:0.7.0-rc2.

Highlights of this:

Videos actually work now :gtspat:
More stable fetching avatars + headers.
Much more thorough prune logic for stale/unused media files.

Enjoy, and please let us know via a github issue if you find a bug peculiar to this release candidate.

mastodon meltdowns, meta

Yes, it really sucks when an instance shuts down. Yes, it really sucks navigating interpersonal conflicts. Yes, it really sucks discovering that some admins are shitty, actually.

But, consider this: this isn't just about a migration from Twitter to Mastodon - or to fedi, for that matter.

Rather, we're all collectively having to relearn how to build and maintain communities and their infrastructure, after two decades of total reliance on corporations to (fail to) do so.

That *is* going to be a messy process, involving a lot of conflict as people figure things out. For many, it's learning these things the hard way, through trial and error.

It may be painful, but it's very much worth it in the long run. And fedi just happens to be the environment that people learn it in.
