Thoroughly bonkers upcoming ASPLOS paper from some UCSD folks: making competitive cloud servers out of old Android phones they bought on eBay. dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3575693

@rune @joepie91 it's both, outgoing requests for Matrix and Mastodon go through the wireguard tunnel, and incoming gets reverse proxied by the vps into the vpn, works great, with way worse uplink at home too

@vagina_museum@masto.ai seeing a bird on the Vagina Museum I expected it to be about the 'tit', but this was super interesting!

@joepie91 right, yeah it'd only trigger if it's actually different from the server's state. persisting would be possible but also a bit of a ui nightmare, you'd have to clearly mark it as "changed locally but not actually saved and changed yet", hmm

@steph@toot.party hm but I'd find that rather unexpected, like when editing the display name field and clicking to a different section

this is in the context of the Settings interface, it'd probably only trigger on the sidebar menu navigation, with a built-in pop-up that has an option to never show it again (not the browser-level popup)
