People love the idea that masks don't work against COVID because they'd rather live in a world where there's no way to prevent COVID than live in a world where there is a way to prevent COVID that they personally don't wanna do.

im consistently surprised by how terrible people are at taking photos of their camera lenses for second hand listings... like... you're a photographer... this is like, your thing

I can't stop thinking about the statement "I don't dream of owning a house" when it comes to housing justice and housing futures. It's also not fair to assume that everyone's dream is to own a house. A future where everyone owns a house is completely unsustainable. I've been thinking about how to apply this rhetoric to other scenarios and what potential alternatives that center QTBIPOC voices. It has me thinking about other types of futurism where what we're told supposed to want is not what I want at all. Like, "I don't dream of AI servants".

@researchfairy it's kind of interesting that the two approaches to software reproducibility + isolation are ignore all the system settings (snap/flatpak) or control everything with central system settings/config (nixos, guix)

re: rant, tech politics

@hazelnot Necrocomputing is like the evil little brother of retrocomputing; where it is no longer just about personally enjoying old or nostalgic stuff, but about actually claiming that it is superior to anything newer, that it could not possibly be improved upon, and that we should all go back to whatever the old thing is.

There's generally (at least) a significant amount of ableism and classism involved in the rationale, such as declaring modern accessibility features to be 'bloat'.
