@jk similar stories here; in preschool, getting scolded for using keyboard shortcuts to rotate the screen....

and later in highschool for "trying to hack computers and disturb classes" because I had some innocent vbs scripts in my school account....

@StroomAfwaarts hm, I've had exactly the same thing happen around a year ago (same ear too), and visited the GP then, but he couldn't really do anything about it, and it faded away after a few days. It's definitely getting less painful already

meta-meta (a post about meta posts)

posting about "oh I don't know what's happening but oh gee I'm sure glad that I don't" and "wow, more drama 🙄" actively aggravate the tension in the discourse and detracts from the VERY REAL AND IMPORTANT WORK that people are doing to create a healthy community here and like

ur allowed not to know about the discourse and you're allowed not to seek it out but please don't just laugh about it when it's really profoundly affecting some people

@purringChaos@trollian.space yeah you'll want Hetzner, they're great

@thufie maybe demand avoidance will get me up then, thanks :P

things I learned recently that make my hackerspace finance keeping easier

- opening pdfs in gimp is normally super annoying, but very convenient to mark things into categories
- 'x' in gimp to switch the fg/bg colors, for marking
- while gnucash has horrid UX, it does support doing calculations in input fields (just like blender, gimp, inkscape) which is super useful

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!⚡

- scream into the void 🕳️

mirror selfie ; no eye contact ; needs moar punk

@ary I think they ment fashionistas :P

covid, mask safety

@twitter@mastodon.technology they condense a lot of your exhalation, so if you are infectious and handle a used mask improperly it can definitely pose a risk to others

april fools 2020, current events

I hope we all realize that April Fools jokes shared this year should hurt or belittle no one.

But this concept itself is inherently gaslighting, and it gets under people's skin.

If you feel you absolutely must, a good way to help keep it opt-in is to use #AprilFools at the end of the body of the post so people can filter it out. Using a CW will hide this.

Please, please do this for people this year. Stressed out folks will appreciate it.

@lawremipsum@mspsocial.net id sign that
hackaday had a good article about these

"A status LED, most would agree, is there to indicate status. It need only deliver enough light to be seen when observed by a querying eye. What it need not do is glow with the intensity of a dying star, or illuminate an entire room for that matter."

newage scammer shit

seems to be a pretty competitive buisness though, there's some weird video explaining how supposedly their product helped win the tour de france, and it's been reuploaded by lots of different companies all claiming it was *their* product that did it

newage bullshit, parents ---

@emsenn@myasstodon.xyz uh you buy their expensive blankets to supposedly connect your body to the earth while sleeping, helps with the electro smog

newage bullshit, parents ---

Im so fucking fed up with this garbage, latest trend seems to be "earthing" and im saddened it's not completely fucking obvious they're just trying to scam gullible boomers from looking at literally anything they write
