But the dreams came on in the beach.city night like livewire mountain dew, and she'd cry for it, cry in her sleep, and wake alone in the dark, curled in her futon in some seattle apartment, her hands clawed into the couch cushions, pillows bunched between her fingers, trying to reach the timeline that wasn't there.
