Does anyone have thoughts on hCaptcha? Gitea gets absolutely flooded with spam signups without a captcha, but I'd really like to make registration open again

At old apartments, I had this issue. Sometimes, I would solve it by wandering outside in a bathrobe and blearily asking what the hurry was. It would help for a day or two.
A package of donuts and a clear note "hi, I'm your neighbor and I'd really appreciate if you could wait to use the belt sander until after nine. It's loud and I don't usually get to sleep until four am. Thanks!" with said breakfast food can help. That usually worked for a week or so... It's real tiring shit.

Homophobia, Japan politics
@nonphatic queer politics in Japan are... Mmm... It is not a surprise to me that so much anime is straight. If you don't know much, you might wanna Google it? But it's not, like, super pleasant.
In short, Japan is homophobic and has a declining birth rate. There's public sentiment that queer relationships don't result in children, and thus aren't something to be encouraged. This may change in time.
If you haven't seen Promare, you might enjoy it. It is well done.
@elixx sometimes a user's own moderation decision is "I will join an instance moderated by a group that I know will ban federation with servers my lizard brain doesn't like".
Yes, there's a big, necessary trust there, but choosing to say "I don't need to hear absolutely everyone on mastodon" is a legitimate choice as well. Mastodon was built to enable that kind of thing well, unlike other platforms.
