https://vincent.callebaut.org/category/projects/ This architect is doing some of the wildest solarpunk shit I've seen in my life! I don't know what to think about this?! Everything seems completely impossible :D Lots of cool designs though! Especially I've been wishing for an airship comeback, for many reasons, but vertical ones?! wild
@lyncia cricket works okay for me, many people like mint
@joepie91 echoing previous. 1 I would call relationship anarchy, 2 I might call a comet, though those are usually more romantic than platonic.
I'm seeing a lot of proclamations that there should be no exceptions to describing your images or that there's no reason to interact with any that aren't described.
I know these mean well, but they are themselves ableist.
Disabled people know that access needs can clash. I benefit from described images, but I know some people struggle to write them because of their own disabilities.
And that's okay! The culture of image descriptions is great here but it should never be absolutist.
I challenged someone on their hardline stance on this once, and it blew up into a tiny fedi drama, with the nice outcome of more social solutions.
That's around the time people started to CW undescribed images.
My instance developed an emoji to indicate you'd like a media description added.
There's a group you can tag, @imagecaptionspls, that people follow who are willing to add descriptions.
And there's @PleaseCaption to remind you if you forget.
Please describe:
* your jokes/memes - it's no good saying "this is just silly, you're not missing anything"; let us be the judge of that! Also, being disabled isn't about being dull and worthy all the time.
* your artwork - I'm so sad when I see cool art I can't boost (and sometimes can't even discern :) )
* your gifs and videos - description isn't just for still images!
* your audio clips - yep, these can be described too!
@polliwoog I love the ocean waves in the hair. Welcome! :)
Question to SFF reading people: can anyone think of a male author who's written gender-expansive settings and/or major recurring characters - really *engaging* with gender as a flexible concept?
eg works by Ursula Le Guin, Mary Gentle, or even characters in settings by Lois McMaster Bujold or Martha Wells... have any men written equivalent stuff that distinctly engages with non-binaristic gender?
I know they must have, but my brain's just not supplying names & examples.
@cyberia honestly, I'd say most brands these days are vegan/cruelty free. Unless you're having special issues, you might be better off finding a product you like and then double checking rather than the other way around.
In terms of cf drugstore brands, nyx is popular. If you want smaller brands, beauty bakerie has an excellent vegan matte black lipstick.
Tonight the Emperor Norton Coffee Hour returns to the #CircusInPlace video chat!
For the new kids, it's an hour where us clowns get to have a coffee with internet friends before diving into an entire night of circus skills training.
Join us starting at 7PM UTC-5, and hang around all night as I practice juggling, handstands, and other gravity defying nonsense.

As always, I'm incredibly grateful for the company.
@pixouls this sounds like a microhell. Maybe, like, a 1x1 square of hell next to the parking lot.
about the current harassment wave, boost for awareness
@joepie91 nice to meet you! I'm Starless and I like to make art and build friendly things-- communities, technical projects, whatever. :)
Nice to meet you!
@thufie ugh, right???
My guess is it's some kind of freeze peach internet crossover idea from a decade back, but I've got no clue. It's exhausting!
I have started using this metaphor when recommending friends to use it.
The metaphor extends to the available feeds:
'Home': chat w/ my friends circle, including neighbors and visitors you invited in.
'Local': building party, hang w/ neighbors.
'Federated': take a walk down the street, see weird stuff, chat w/ random strangers, but keep your guard up.
Of course, it's not a perfect match, but I think it quickly conveys the social experience and trade-offs between different instances.
@stelepami yeah, that makes sense. I had some pretty big health/tech issues a little while back. Sometime, if you're up for it, it might be neat to hear/read/whatever more about your experiences, but absolutely no pressure.
I do mostly talk about not tech. :)
@stelepami hi there! I'm Starless and I'm also MSP local, though I'm not on MSP social. I tend to hang out and do computer stuff with the https://cyberia.club folks and like art.
I do sometimes talk about computer things, so very understood if following might be a bit spicy.
Just wanted to say hello! :)
@dragon nono, the kitty would! Just when you turn over the phone it would send the signal to print it
@dragon Thanks! Yeah, the printer looked *adorable* so I got it and forked the repo that hacked the BT control scheme.
Unfortunately, the graphics resolution isn't as good as the espos python one that I'd been using before, so there's that, but like... It's pretty cool, and people really get delighted by it.
If I could trivially make a little android app, I'd make one that calls the script when the phone is turned over (gyroscope?) while the app is running so that you 'draw' a card by turning over the phone (displaying the image of the back of a card).
i like kind machines. pro-people-not-dying. anti-nazi. anti-colonizer. pagan, but lazy about it.
I am #HardOfHearing, #nonbinary, polyamourous, into ttrpgs and #tech. Hobbyist #leatherworker, hobbyist scifi author, community builder, and artist.
I like to build #whimsical things that help people to #dream better and form meaningful connections. If you wanna hang out with friendly computer weirdos in Minneapolis, lemme know.
Profile image description: a watercolor painting of a person with pale skin and brown and blue hair laughing. They have a side cut and an audio processor is visible behind their ear. The art style is loose and the eyes are squinched into little crescents.
