"De 6-jarige jongen die vanmorgen vermoedelijk door een wolf werd aangevallen in de Utrechtse bossen, is weer thuis."

En, zou het weer eens een hond zijn, zoals gebruikelijk?

Also, more generally... if you see me subtooting someone and are wondering if it's about you: it's probably not.

I make a point of telling people when I have a problem with their behaviour, because I can't expect them to change it if I never tell them what's wrong.

If I subtoot about it, either it's *in addition to* doing so (and if it were about you, you'd already know *with certainty*) or it's about someone I've never spoken to personally (and so it's almost certainly some public figure and not you).

You know how so often in 80s and 90s “Tech nightmare” movies there was the trope of the old woman who started it all and is now living in some small town in the mountains tending flowers?

And she would say shit like “they took our beautiful creation and turned in into something monstrous, so now I create beauty here. Flowers that can’t be twisted for money and power.”

Yeah I never really realized how much I identified with that trope until I left software. I have the garden in a small mountain town and everything.

Just had an interesting interaction with my children where it became clear that “transition” was a word that they did not understand.

Using simplified language, I tried to explain that it was the word for what I did because I was a boy and became a girl.

They were literally confused, because in their mind, I was always a girl.

“Why do you need a word for changing clothes or taking medicine? That’s just things people do!”

Their perspective sort of blows my mind. I always thought my transition was a huge deal. But it’s like a non-event to them. They didn’t even see it.

😭🙀

subtoot, venting

I truly cannot stand people who try to make others responsible for their personal guilt.

"Please don't litter XKCDs on my floor" and other completely normal things to say in this house

some people are desperate to be kind to their enemies because having enemies sucks, which is why you must transform them rather than applaud them. nothing but death or a profound reeducation will place love in fascist hearts and neither of those things goes “i gotta hand it to race scientists”

Heya, is anybody driving from Munich to WHY who's willing to take some of my stuff with them?

The people who were going to drive my camping supplies to WHY cancelled. Last time I tried to carry the supplies myself, I got sick from overexertion.

journo adjacent people, I am currently looking for a place where I can publish a piece on how journalism was wrecked and and get som eyes on it.

Anyway, if you have any ideas, lmk

I was just floored and fully impressed that a website correctly detected that I have address protection and offered a simple human readable error message explaining I have to use the alternative login option

@joepie91 If they setup an 'migrate to SteamOS.exe' the same way Ubuntu used to offer an installer from Windows, but better, that would be huge for Linux adoption. Suddenly everybody would know what the KDE Plasma desktop is, etc...

And in particular, because it doesn't *look* like it's that hard

This practice has been obsoleted, by the way, because people consistently kept fucking them up because it turns out that process synchronization is Very Hard To Get Right

... wait a moment. Those 'wait groups' in Golang, is that literally just their equivalent of async-callback-counting in JS?! A practice which has been obsolete for like a decade by now?

I really struggle to take this language seriously...
