Has anyone seen a study about the effect of handwashing on Covid spread?
(Yes, I know it's airborne. It's just the 'wash your hands for 20 seconds' thing is very persistent.)
i got tired of seeing the meme with the ai-art otter (i don't even remember what the meme was about) so i quickly sketched an otter holding a sign. i didn't use the original for reference, so the sign proportion is totally different. also i don't often draw otters so this might not look very otterlike. also it's grumpy
feel free to use it however you like
I would just like to say that these signs in the DFW airport bathrooms are peak social engineering, and I do hope Dan Patrick enjoys all the phone calls from people upset about the government photographing their hairy bits.

'Each man thought: one of the others is bound to say something soon, some protest and then I will murmur agreement, not actually say anything. I am not as stupid as that, but definitely murmur very firmly, so that the others will be in no doubt that I thoroughly disapprove, because at a time like this it behooves all decent men to nearly stand up and be almost heard. But no one said anything. The cowards, each man thought.'

pspol, eupol, uspol
Another article talking about how the Freedom Flotilla is being treated in international waters. I CWed it with eu/uspol in addition to pspol because there are both eu and us citizens aboard this vessel. They still have their conscience and just wanted to deliver aid to starving people. Israel is reacting horrifically, as always.

Re. https://mastodon.art/@Curator/114400044441100499 , it's been a week and we've seen nothing to indicate that Fosstodon will be changing for the better any time soon, and so we have defederated from the instance.
This has severed all existing connections between people on mastodon.art and fosstodon.org, and will prevent any further communication between our instances (e.g. you won't be able to find or follow people on Fosstodon, and they won't be able to find you).

I hate how "expecting <person> to do <thing>" can mean two completely different things; believing that they will do a thing, vs. holding them accountable if they don't.
I also hate how much more effort it takes to talk about collectivist ideas and responsibility, than it does to talk about individualism and personal benefits, because people just aren't used to talking about it and so constantly misunderstand/misassume things
Literally just a button that says "Buy .epub file, $5 (works on any device)" would replace the massive stack of "Buy on Kobo" "Buy on Amazon" "Buy for Nook" "Buy on Apple Books" "Buy from the Google Play store" literally why do people play along with this farce, why make it all so bloody pointlessly complicated
So much work has been done to convince people that "socialism" "communism" "anarchy" etc. are all completely non-viable.
If they were non-viable, then why would they need to try so hard to destroy them?
If you're on the fence about anarchism, consider this: is it possible that the reason you don't think it can work is because of brutal repression from the ruling class?
Anarchism would mean that they would only be as good as everyone else, would receive the same treatment, have the same amount of input & the same obligations and responsibilities. Of course they do everything in their power to kill it. They don't want to be equal.
Is it possible that they crush it because it might succeed?
uspol, deaths
What do you folks do for backups these days? I used to use a drobo RAID array for all my stuff, but the company and the device died and all my data is stuck on drives that i can't decrypt. I'm looking for something more resilient and long-lasting. A lot of it is raw footage so it's a couple terabytes of data.
This happened again today
🦝 Oh cool, a local solarpunk author with a neat blog, I will go and buy their book
🦝 I wonder if I can just buy it on their website and they'll email me the .epub or let me download it
🦝 That would be the easiest way, and would work on any phone, computer, tablet or ereader made since around 2007, so I bet that's what I'll find on their website
🦌 how about eleven (11) different links to buy the book in eleven (11) different ways from eleven (11) different stores
🦝 Will one of them work with my ereader
🦌 no
🦝 Cool
