@cthos Right? The given justification, that a member of the TSC tried it and liked it, is really weak for any technical change, but *especially* for such a massive change in how the project relates to the enclosure and devaluation of labor.
This strikes me as a real own goal, but besides that, a very bad sign for institutional health.
In particular:
• There's no technical benefit to the proposal to allow AI, so the proposal existing at all is a bad sign for the project's ability to make decisions with technical and social impacts.
• The preemptive CoC check reads as an attempt to chill or otherwise negate dissent.
• Categorizing docs as being more acceptable for AI is just saying that docs "aren't technical" with more words.
Far less important than everything else, but AI shilling in Rust is so confusing to me. "I wish I had a programming language that helped me prevent serious logic and memory safety errors, provided me with readable error messages that can help me find those errors when they occur, that comes with excellent documentation tools, and, oh yeah! I wish it lied to me all the time and inserted junk code of unknown provenance everywhere!"
random somebody-else's-tool promotion: https://klaash.github.io/xkcdcolorpicker/ is a color picker based on the xkcd color survey some years ago, which asked a load of geeky-webcomic-reading netizens to name random hex value colors. as such, it's a convenient way to either find colors via English language names or find popular names for colors similar to a specific hex color.
If the stock market is a graph of rich peoples' feelings, then it seems like they're really having some feelings lately and I love that for them
The stock market is honestly so funny to me. Like, there used to be an era where prices had an ostensible link to earnings - a stock would pay you for owning it. But for decades it's just been about expected future value of the stock, so now it trades on vibes, momentum, and the shaking of the magic 8-ball.
And the americans elected the world's biggest vibekiller to the largest source of global economic vibes. Stonks!
i'm really excited to show https://compost.party to the world! it's a web server running on an old, broken phone, getting energy from the sun using one of those portable solar chargers that you may also have lying around.
it's a real oddity and a real beauty
@theresnotime "Geo-distributed server cluster"
(I ran a long ethernet cable across the apartment)
Having installed both, a windows and an Ubuntu, today, my appreciation for all the people behind Linux, Ubuntu and Gnome has grown even more. Windows greeted me with abusive language, almost forcing me into registering an online account and plain out refusing to let me select a system language. Meanwhile Ubuntu, after selecting a language, offered me, with a clear language and symbols, accessibility options, with no ads or the promise that my system will be worse with no online account. Hell yes, Washington Post tech workers have unionized. ✊🏻
Technical debt collector and general hype-hater. Early 30s, non-binary, ND, poly, relationship anarchist, generally queer.
Sometimes horny on main (behind CW), very much into kink (bondage, freeuse, CNC, and other stuff), and believe it or not, very much a submissive bottom :p
Feel free to flirt, but if you want to actually meet up and/or do something with me, lewd or otherwise, please tell me explicitly or I won't realize :) I'm generally very open to that sort of thing!
Further boundaries: boosts are OK (including for lewd posts), DMs are open. But the devil doesn't need an advocate; I'm not interested in combative arguing in my mentions. I am however happy to explain things in-depth when asked non-combatively.
My spoons are limited, so I may not always have the energy to respond to messages.
Strong views about abolishing oppression, hierarchy, agency, and self-governance - but I also trust people by default and give them room to grow, unless they give me reason not to. That all also applies to technology and how it's built.
