Challenge bigotry whenever you see it. It doesn't have to be neat and tidy, it just needs to be done 🫡

good things about getting older:

- realizing that you are part of a rich tapestry of history that leads back far longer than you or anyone you know remembers

- starting to be the source of those cool stories people in their younger years hear and wish they were there for

- noticing you have a rich body of knowledge on *something*, even if it's godawful fandom drama that wasn't funny at the time

- being more comfortable with what you are and are not good at, and what you can and cannot do

- under most circumstances people start giving less of a fuck about what you wear and how you act, if only because they've already written you off as uncool by sight

- realizing this is a good thing and choosing not to be cool in lieu of being fully yourself was, in fact, the right life choice

You don't have to explain or justify your boundaries. You don't have to debate them with anyone. Ever. You have a choice in what you do and do not want to engage with. If something upsets you, it is your right to remove yourself from it.

went outside to grab some water, i went back and i saw an advertisement on a notice/info board next to the door to my block. the advertisement went like "do you experience trouble at work? buy this book and your life will transform for the better!"

it was a l. ron hubbard book.

i sighed and ripped that fucker off the board. no hesitation. there was other person in my vicinity but i don't care who saw me do that. scientology is cancer

dude color filter arrays for e-ink displays are horrifically cool

This is now European businesses should start reacting to vendors that obey the fascists.

If your stock market is underperforming, consider upgrading to a liquid-cooled market.

i still can't from the fact that above 300 minutes of delay the automated PKP announcements at stations just give up and no longer give precise delay info

I only witnessed that once and i was like "WHAT?" when i heard "a train will arrive with a delay OVER 300 MINUTES"

re: phone call; rejection; medical system

context: in January they told us to call back in April. weren't able to call them in the first April week, but managed today.

(it's a neuro-psychiatrist, who could perhaps help us with anxiety disorder meds, and perhaps ADHD meds. we're not aware of ANY doctor in Ruhrpott/NRW who could subscribe us such meds. please let us know otherwise.)

gumroad, licensing

So aside from the Gumroad CEO being a fascist asshole, and their weird appropriation of the 'antiwork' term, and their supposedly "open-source" license that isn't actually open-source...

That license also just isn't doing what they say it's doing. The way it's written, it only permits use by organizations, not by individuals at all...

in today's list of interesting Rockbox themes:

I did not expect This to exist lmao

“The USA Math Olympiad is an extremely challenging math competition for the top US high school students… Hours after it was completed…a team of scientists gave the problems to some of the top large language models, whose mathematical and reasoning abilities have been loudly proclaimed… The results were dismal: None of the AIs scored higher than 5% overall”

Holy shit, the PCB design of this new sensor board, called Ophanim, of CERN’s Aegis experiment just fucking slaps. Right now, there don’t seem to be many images of it on the web, but I hope to see more in the future.

it's worse than that. they could estimate the number of people in the house from CO2, for example, so they could tell when you were away on a trip, or if the number of guests increased on the same weekend when that comrade was sheltering from the cops. they could log when people cook or shower and when they stop doing that. the opaque proprietary device could be tracking all these logs in some MAGA cloud or Putinist leak, or the SIS might give this data freely to the AKP, or to SoKo-Linxs just as the AfD takes power. hypothetically speaking.

even if you block the devices from the Internet, Vonovia can just collect them and plug the logs back into "clouds".

besides, of course, Vonovia using it to blame you for their terrible, self-destructing apartments and withholding your kaution.

oh and they're framing this as a "renovation" which gives them a legal excuse to increase the rent, so you get to pay every month to lose your privacy. and #Vonovia is playing hardline about this being mandatory and has already taken people to court over it.

for anybody who might read this because you have this problem—your local Mieterverein has your back!! if you're a Vonovia tenant and you're not in the renter's union get into it!

It occurs to me that Wirth's law in computing (as computers get faster, software becomes slower) is basically the *exact* same thing as induced demand in urban and transport planning (as the road capacity increases, so does congestion)

Lukewarm take: whatever your organisation spends on that trendy .io domain name should be at least matched by a donation to the campaign to get the British government to give the Chagos Islanders their homes back
