@joepie91 I had a thought that maybe it's the strategy, everyone talks about a GitHub feature that might be tempting to some. But that looks like a no.

rape, the horrible real kind.

If you read one news related thing today please read this powerful one from @girlonthenet

Not that everyone doesn't deserve justice, but few are more deserving of justice than Gisèle Pelicot.

Also can I just say, it's fucking good to see the full list of these rapists? Every major news article I've seen of this story has been "Dominique Pelicot and 50 other men" some of them will probably outlive their prison sentence unfortunately. Time should not be able to wash this shame from these men.

when we talk about putting an end to crypto/AI/surveillance/etc because they cause significant harm to us and the environment, the people in charge love to say "well, the cat's out of the bag, there's no turning back! now that it's been shown that it can be done, we can't stop people from doing more of it!"

but now that a CEO got killed and everybody rejoiced, they're all "we must prevent this from happening again by any means necessary!"

that's because they know that our cat can convince their cats to get back in their bags.

they don't actually care about their safety as much as maintaining their money/power. if they cared that much about their safety they wouldn't be doing stuff like getting into busted submarines, making the planet uninhabitable, and making us suffer so much that everybody wants them dead.

Terrific! Paywalls are disappearing! No more 12 month embargo between when NIH funded work appears in a journal and when it becomes accessible to all (as of December 2025).

A priest, a pastor, and a rabbit entered a clinic to donate blood.

The nurse asked the rabbit "what's your blood type?"

"I'm probably a type O", said the rabbit.

No way this person stole an amazon package in looney tunes style😭😭

I don't know exactly what Github was trying to achieve with their site-wide "you can use copilot" mail push but so far almost every single comment I've seen about it has been to the effect of "no, fuck off, I do not want this"

Ja,

Ik heb een koelkast, een zgan vriezer en een wasmachine over.
Maar ook nog een magnetron....

Weet je iemand die het goed kan gebruiken?

Fire

I’m reminded of how the dorm building I lived in didn’t have like a centralized fire alarm and the instructions we got were rather than yell fire to wake up our hallmates we should play music really loudly. Cause people would ignore yelling as just drunk people being annoying and they would get out of bed to complain about really loud music and could then be told there’s fire. Different times, but I think the logic was sound.

Just noticed that in Sint-Agatha-Rode there is an alpaca farm named Sint-Alpaca-Rode :blobcatgooglynotlikethis:

Well, this is certainly a first: having a compatibility issue because an Arch (not testing) package is older than a Debian (testing) one.

We need a “where are they now” post on the 5 hydrogen busses De Lijn bought for 6 million euros…

Threat actors (scammers) ARE using AI to sound like real customer service.
Real customer service calls, the person sounds tired and like they just want to get this over with. 🥴 They don't sound perky and awake this time of year.

Do a search to see if the email address is legit. (US) Government websites almost always have .gov in email/websites. Businesses will have [something]@kohls.com, [something]@target.com etc.

1/2 please retoot #kentiemandeenbankveiligheidsmedewerker

re: ADHD advice, overcoming executive dysfunction

@joepie91 You actually put into words what I've been doing and moving towards for a while.

Another tip I have: make things simple for you.

To keep in line with the kitchen example: I don't use most of my dishes. It's far easier to clean one bowl or one plate than it is to clean 5 of them. All of my dishes fit into the sink, so they can just soak there if I'm out of spoons. (I don't have a dishwasher)
Also one thing that was surprisingly effective: Removing the doors from kitchen cabinets.

ADHD advice, overcoming executive dysfunction

(I'm writing this as someone who has partially overcome executive functioning problems.)

If you have ADHD, you're going to encounter a lot of (social) expectations and obligations, likely so many that you'll get overwhelmed and eventually decide "fuck it all".

But an important skill to learn is to distinguish the *necessary* from the *unnecessary* obligations, and spend your spoons accordingly.

Most of the obligations that are placed on you by mainly neurotypical folks, can be safely ignored. You don't *need* to go to parties or get-togethers. You don't *need* to attend family events. You don't *need* to get a 9-to-5 job. And so on.

But for every obligation, you should ask yourself: "does ignoring this obligation have concrete, negative consequences for my ability to function and live my life?"

For example, sleep schedule is typically an important one; it doesn't need to be a standard sleep schedule, but it *does* need to have enough overlap with opening times of stores, government organizations etc. to live your life - so you need to put in the effort of finding a workable schedule *and keeping yourself to it*.

Likewise, keeping food preparation areas clean is a big one; if you're neurospicy, you probably have difficulty eating in time, and so it is important to remove any barriers that would keep you from doing so (like a dirty kitchen). So you need to invest the spoons in making yourself do the cleaning after use.

And so on, and so forth. Identify the things that are actually necessary for you to function, and spend your spoons on those first to build up a baseline of executive functioning, even when it sucks, even when you don't want to. Drop the obligations you have no use for, even if people complain.

But take the *actually necessary* obligations seriously, and don't skip out on them or let yourself find excuses to delay them.
