Someone said “good morning” to me at the bus stop and before thinking about it I said “no it’s not. It is objectively *not* a good morning.”

I regretted this instantly all the bus stop regulars already think I’m a strange little nerd. Now they will think (know?) I’m a weirdly politically obsessed strange little nerd.

But instead of the look 👀 of disapproval, hilariously everyone agreed.

“Bad morning!”
“BAD morning!”

USPol; resisting fascism

I haven't a neat handbook, but if you want to reduce the power delta between the individual and the government - some things you can do:

Look into organising community groups which can provide goods, support, shelter to each other
Make sure your documentation and especially passport is up to date in case you ever need it
Purchase a firearm - even if you don't intend to ever use it, knowing that the population is armed can shift the risk-benefit ratio of doing oppression
Sanitise your digital footprint - don't use cloud-based period tracker apps because they'll snitch on you, avoid saying anything actionable through unencrypted messaging apps, be aware that your movements can be tracked with digital devices and with facial recognition
If you're protesting, mask up and don't bring your phone - it can be used to identify you even if you're not arrested
Be prepared to demonstrate, be aware of how to nullify methods of state repression such as tear gas
Laugh at it and them. Fascists are fragile creatures.
If you can, stockpile materials which are subject to restriction - trans people should stockpile hormones if possible, people who can get pregnant should stockpile abortion medications if possible
Organise your workplace, fascism is supported by capital and disrupting it can only be helpful
Be loud about what's happening - it's not normal, and people need to remember not to fall into tacit acceptance

uspol, question

I'm looking to read the thoughts of other folks, *specifically* non-white folks, on the outcome of the US elections and what that means about the way forward. Something blogpost-shaped would be ideal. Does anyone have any suggestions?

(Importantly, I'm looking to *read* and absorb, not argue. And I realize that it's early to ask this question, so feel free to recommend something a few days from now when you run across it.)

uspol, migration guide

Want to leave the US?
Here's how you can move to germany, even if you have no official credentials (like a university degree) or job that can get you a sponsored visa.
Germany is not perfect. We have our own fascism issues, but we didn't just elect someone who openly paraphrases hitler as supreme leader.

Step 1: Start studying for german B1 language level. Duolingo can get you there, I also heard good things about babbel and other apps.
Step 2: Find an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships in Germany are weird compared to the rest of the world. It's a mostly full time job with a bad wage that is supposed to train you how to do a job. Finding one, if you have B1 language skills, entitles you to a work permit for the duration of it, completing one entitles you to a settlement permit.
I did an apprenticeship in IT, but there's many options. Healthcare is one of the options with the best chances of getting hired and it pays pretty well compared to others. If you don't mind waking up early, bakeries often receive not a single application for their apprenticeship postings.
I would recommend you to not go into the major cities, as their immigration offices are overworked and rent is too high to pay from an apprentice wage.
Step 3: Finish the apprenticeship and apply for a settlement permit
Step 4: Congrats, you can now live in germany as long as you want and work in any industry
Step 5: After 3-5 years (depending on how well you do at work or how good your language skills are) you can apply for citizenship. If you get that, you can live and work in any EU country.

Gentle reminder that most disabled people can NOT leave the United States. Countries don’t want to take in disabled, chronically ill and “high cost health users”. There are serious financial barriers to moving - leaving most people behind.

Spare a thought for all of us tonight - people are scared. Then regroup and find a way forward … we are stronger together.

i am just going to say it, if you are transgender. please start doing DIY hormones and stockpile if you can. or at least find access for DIY estrogen and connect with those who provide that for communities. get as much as you can.

FYI: this can be a felony and you might end up in jail if you get caught, so weigh your options.

community spaces. solidarity networks. free clinics. mutual aid. community kitchens. community clothes closets. solidarity funds. give-away shops. filesharing. community servers. tenant unions. sit-ins. disobedience.

humans are a communal species. we thrive when we're together.

building a healthy community is more radical and more effective than anything else you can do. never forget that.

U.S Politics, 2024 elections, Nevada

If you know anyone in Nevada, please share: there are some fourteen thousand ballots with signature issues that need to be cured before they can be counted; curing of ballots only lasts until November 12. They can check online to see whether their ballot was counted:

content warnings and politics meta

Why are the worst offenders for un-CWed politics always self-described anarchists, leftists, or anti-fascist activists? I kinda think the people with politics in bio should have the best understanding of political social expectations...

uspol, organizing

just a reminder yall, you don't have to be a gunner to be a fighter. every soldier has someone who feeds them. someone who heals their wounds. someone who helps with organization and communications. someone who finances their cause and gathers resources and information. someone who inspires others to join them, with art and propaganda.

we all can help each other, even those who aren't bruisers and brawlers.

:antifa: :anarchism:

US pol, mention of ableist slurs, swears

Other white people, especially in Europe; instead of crowing about how stupid Americans are, how about instead you go to the #MutualAid tags and give #trans #BIPOC some money, even if it's just a few dollars. You will feel better and you will give them some hope.

Also, if I follow you and I see you saying some unhelpful shit, you're getting muted and then blocked.

Be kind to yourselves today. Eat and drink when you need to, rest, stretch, move, breathe, medicate. Find your poise, your calm, your sense of place and purpose. Give yourself positive reminders of who you are and what you went through to get there.

Recoup your energy; you'll need it for the resistance. :molotov:

nixos

Unbelievable, this shit is *still* going on, and it's *still* the same names concern-trolling every discussion about inclusivity

Is there a half-decent, non-US based search engine? no, I don't want a searx, i want a no-google/bing-in-the-middle

The biggest obstacle to our getting housed has been unemployment. My wife graduated with a Master's of Science in Library and information Sciences last year, and we have been homeless since January. Looking for viable jobs; currently she works in a call centern for minimum wage with a sideline in selling plasma.

I can also confirm that I have had the exact same experience, consistently, in talking to such people.

Seriously, folks, check in with the people that go quiet, in the days to come.

Also, if you feel like going quiet, because it all feels hopeless to you, talk to others. Find the helpers. Use the network you have on here.

Organising is how we get through this, by banding together. Form up.

DMs are open, if you feel the need to rage or cry a bit more privately. Just remember that it's not encrypted.
