I feel weird recommending Linux to people because it's not just one thing like Windows and MacOS are, it's this huge constellation of software to select from. I think that's a good thing, but if they're not somebody who will just try out a bunch of systems for fun and I say "use Fedora" or "use Kubuntu" I feel like I am making a bunch of important choices for them, or potentially scaring them off if some of those choices aren't ideal for them.

So. It's probably time to bring this up again: Cloudflare is a US-based company with close ties to the US government (law enforcement and intelligence in particular) that currently controls a double-digit percentage of web traffic, and basically strips away the encryption from the connection - in other words, they can see *everything* that is sent through sites that use Cloudflare.
The CEO is also a 4chan-y techbro which has in the past shown support for fascist and harassment websites (not just KF either, also nazi websites).
If there was ever a moment to rip Cloudflare out of the infrastructure for your site or service, that moment is *right now*.

when people hear "revolution" they think battling in the streets or guerrillas coming out of the hills, but i think this emphasis is settler propaganda. transformation occurs everywhere, and obsessing about how our enemies will resist that in particularly brutal ways forgets that we did not start this violence. we choose how to navigate it, what to do, who to trust, how to build, how to *rebuild*, and the fonts of that transformation live in every corner of our lives. it starts inside you.

The thing is, replacing the NixOS project as a whole (language, package set, all of that) is a very large effort, because you break compatibility with the existing work, and have to recreate basically an entire ecosystem. So people have been avoiding doing that, and tried to make the NixOS project better instead.
But... the combined pile of "problems with the language", "toxic community and insufficient moderation", and "technical debt" is *also* something that requires a very large effort to keep dealing with, especially in the long term, and the community management in particular could very easily end up changing which of these two options is the most work.

I think it's very worth pointing out that queermisic rhetoric has literally not evolved past the juvenile stage of "eww, cooties!" and that people with this level of juvenile thinking should not be allowed in positions of political power
literally, the entire argument is people think we're gross and that's it. why are we gross, you might ask? because the mysterious, yet-to-be-described-by-science cooties might rub off on other people
ridicule affects these people far more than reason. painting them as the children they are will affect them far more than any rational argument

Let's say you're cis. Not trans at all!
You do know you're still allowed to experiment with your name, outfit, makeup (or lack thereof), your pronouns, whatever you want? Right?
You're a guy with she/her pronouns or a gal with he/him pronouns? That's fine. You want to wear a skirt? You want to eat barbed wire instead of cereal?*.
You're allowed. You can still be cis after all this.
I've met too many people who wanted to explore themselves, but hesitated because they thought they weren't "allowed" that.
If you read this and have impostor syndrome about gender expression? You're not trespassing. You don't have to be "a real trans person" to do anything you want. You have this trans gal's permission
The Secret Trans Council has spoken through me. We won't send cat-eared assassins after you (unless you ask nicely).
You're seriously not hurting anyone. And don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
